(VIDEO) Still looking for my vibration

Featured Replies

As Mark said about the Powerflex/Superpro combination, the initial cabin vibration when cold is awesome, ive done about 500 miles and its getting a lot less so sticking with it for the time being. Apart from eliminating "wheel hop" the reduced engine movement must help the exhaust down pipe / system by not having to flex so much.

NB: Vid clips are very interesting

bet you cleaned your mount too.....

I only just took mount Powerflex bushes out yesterday and but back in Superpro. I had run in the powerflex already but I was getting a bad vibration and pulling away was difficult. At first i thought clutch judder it was so bad..

So in went super pro (that again I had in before and were bedded in) and wow what a difference. Car starts with no vibration and is a pleasure to drive, no juddering at pulling off.

Thinking about is as I had the powerflex in before and no issues I am wondering if the center bolt through bush was too loose. Seen that before

So I have had various combinations.

Powerflex rear

Powerflex rear / super pro inserts on front

Powerflex rear / super pro solid front

Super pro rear / super pro solid front (best for me so far)

Thanks for the links, looks like the powerflex is half the price of the superpro one, so will probably try that one, would I need to change the round mount at the front aswell ? Only reason I was contemplating the ECS one, is I dont have a tourqe wrench, so was thinking it would save money buying one, but I guess im gonna need one of them soon enough anyway..

you would still need a torque wrench fitting the ECS one as the bolt to install need torqing.

Plus you should really replace all the bolts as they are stretch bolts

VAG Part numbers are:

N10268304 X 2

N90597005 X 1

N10246610 X 1

I would not change the round mount at front on your car as this will give you too much rigidness. My car is poly bushed all round with bigger ARB's front and back and I only replaced the round after gaining experience in what and how my car behaves with them.

thanks again, watching a torque on ebay now, might aswell get the right tools,

nice heads up about the bolts too as I would of used the old ones..

Would it not even be worth replacing the round one with a new standard one ?

No buddy they hardly wear it is the rear ones that wear.

Also they are a right pain to remove as you have to drill them out. Don't bother buddy there is no need

When my main mounts gave up, going up hill holding steady revs in third, it was like a pendulum effect in the car you could feel something swinging.

Does that make sense ?? lol

total sense to me .

I actually lived with the issue much longer than needed as first thought it was a dodgy clutch installed. (please to say that is ok now)

On start up car would vibrate and give a drone through cabin, pulling away and up hill was major clutch balance to let out slowly with correct revs just to pull away without judder.

I almost forgot how it was before......

Now with a good mount and bushing, start the car up with absolutely no vibration, starter motor sounds louder coz i hear nothing else lol.

pulling away with ease and no judder what a relief....one happy Skoda owner....

yes makes sense to me too, sounds just like mine does

again, hill starts are quite worrying, have stalled it a few times because of the weird feeling I get, so deffo sounds promising signs of a dogbone needing a nice new mount

Do the gearbox side first, mine was much worse than my drivers side.

well went to a garage today, and he has found the problem with my car, and he actually showed me problems, top mounts on the shocks was gone, he replaced them for me today, the exhaust heatsheild is missing 3 nuts which was my vibration noise, but the worse was my steering rack is failing on the drivers side, at first he thought it was the track rod, but when he removed the boot he could see it was the actual rack,

now what do people think to using a recon rack, or would finding someone breaking one be a better option, I found this one on ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SKODA-OCTAVIA-POWER-STEERING-RACK-2001-RECONDITIONED-UNIT-/261228630528?pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&fits=Model%3AOctavia&hash=item3cd2709200

The garage said he knows of a guy that breaks cars and he might be able to get me a used one but I im worried if I get a used one and it goes like mine then its gonna need another labour charge on top of another rack, Also been quoted £70 labour to change the rack is that decent ?

I paid £50 for one of mine to be fitted, in the hand so £70 ain't bad

I'm on my third, which is leaking again !!

Was just about to say I have a spare rack in the garage for £70 + post, only removed it because I fitted LCR front end and rack.

was the second hand units recon's or new ?

I dont think mine is leaking just knocking on the drivers side, I do have a leak on the power steering pipe (sure thats what I was told it was before) it isnt anything bad just a little bit of seeping, was going to get that replaced same time the rack is done..

will bare it mind, see what the garage can get me a second hand one for, as would save on postage fee's. how olds yours, mileage etc ?

2002, and it's done 102k (first 98k were motorway miles going by the history from when I bought the car last year).

thanks for the offer, but will decline, my cars cover 92k on a 2003, so dont fancy putting one on thats older and done more miles, not saying there is anything wrong with it, just dont fancy paying £140 and having the same problem soonish,
