Spray your own octavia?

Recommended Posts

Has anyone been brave enough to DIY spray a body panel?

Im interested in the thought of sanding my bonnet down to the metal and re spraying it.

Is this a terrible idea?

I'd never consider doing a large panel like that without a decent gun, and a proper suction booth. I've got all the equipment (except a booth), plenty of experience, and I'd never try it at home. No way.

Plus, there is no valid reason for sanding back to the metal all over.

What is wroing with it that it would need taken back to metal?

That requires more preparing, etching and is then much more work priming and preparing/painting..

Normally, De-waxing and then sanding back, doing any repairs, and preparing and priming and painting/lacquering is sufficient.

Maybe find some place or someone that can do your bonnet and let you see how it is done.

Could always get a new one and not bother painting it, let it go rusty. Think the vw Boyz call it the rat look or something lol

If you dont have a good setup to do this it can turn out **** :-)

If you are itching to try it your self then go get an old boot lid from a scrapper and have a go with that befor trying on yours
