Hi all. Just wanted to say what a fantastic little corner of the internet you have here. Ive been doing a lot of reading on the posts.

I have to say ive almost talked myself into needing a skoda yeti. Ive been on a test drive and they are fantastic cars. I currently drive a 2010 VW scirocco which is a super car but with my hobbies (hillwalking, camping and cycling) the boot or lack of it is becoming a problem. The extra ground clearance will come in handy too as the scirocco was very limited in this easters heavy snow.

Ive been looking at the yeti elegance 170 diesel and think this could be the car for me. I know the two cars are worlds apart but i just had to get the scirocco out of my system.

I was just wondering on peoples views of the elegance model and the 170 engine? Im not mad keen on the leather interior but from my understanding its cheaper going for the elegance rather than speccing up an SE or SE+.

Thanks in advance

Welcome to Briskoda. :) It doesn't usually take this long to get a response from our Yeti owners!

Thanks DGW. I shall let them off its a Sunday evening and im stuck at work

The CR170 Elegance is awesome, you won't be disappointed. I think it's just as quick as the Golf VR6 I used to drive about 10 years back, and the handling's not far off, but with the added bonus of that 4x4 capability.

Thanks Bob. Im liking that Corrida Red colour my scirocco is salsa red and looks amazing

Hi and welcome,

owned two Yeti's in my time the first an SE 140 and replaced that with the current Elegance 110. Personally prefer the leather seating to the fabric, appears to wear better and easier to clean/wipe down if you drag mud into the car from your walking gear. Xenon lights are much better too. Would also suggest that you consider a heated front screen and RRP both proved useful in winter/snow and the latter offers extra protection on gravel roads etc. when your trying to find somewhere to park up for your day out on the hill.

Oh colour wise SE was red and yes looks really good but the current white shows up less marks and light scratches etc. therefore is easier to look after.

Regards,

TP

Thanks the plumber. Xenons are a must as i work ahifts and do a lot of night driving. I had thought about a heated screen as they were great in the fords. I can see the advantage of the rough road pack too. Colour choice I'm still undecided. White with all the black trim looks good, but so does the red. I quite like the simple silver colour or classier steel grey.

Can anyone tell me what the towbar preparation entails would it be worthwhile ordering this to make fitting a towbar at a later date easier?

Welcome

The towbar preparation......

A big can of worms

Generally accepted to provide single electrics to the rear wheel arch and also uprated fans.

Still need towbar & electrics and coding.

I understand you can now buy a complete towbar fitted by the factory now according to the configurator last time I looked.

Elegance is a great trim level, but the L&K takes it up a level with Columbus (RNS510 in VW speak) and sunroof and other stuff.

The CR 170 is a great choice and maps to about 200 or so if required.

I originally thought you had to pay £180 for towbar preparation, then a further £400 for the towbar itself but you don't - the total cost is just £400 which is an absolute bargain ????

Im not mad keen on the leather interior but from my understanding its cheaper going for the elegance rather than speccing up an SE or SE+.

It's still cheaper to spec up (everything but leather) on the SE or SE+, just considered poor value by many people & will almost certainly cost you at trade up time if you only keep the car for a few years.

How much extra value you consider the Elegance to be depends on your opinion on the leather seats & whether you think they're 'worth' The £1615 (+ £230 for the essential, with 'leather', option) that Skoda quotes (I actually think they're priced stupidly high to fool people into thinking the higher spec represents good value - same goes for in-built sat navs).

For me, I'd take the fabric option even if they were the same cost - also, I will be keeping the car for long enough not to be worried about relative trade-in values. It's one of those areas where the same answer doesn't apply to all cases - it's very much an individual thing.

FergyAndrew - you will not be disappointed. Without question - my Yeti 170 Elegance is the best car I have ever owned. It is strong, comfortable, quick - but can still be very economical. I am lucky to have a fully-loaded model - the panoramic roof is superb, the Columbus Sat Nav is expensive, but very good and the tow-bar - fitted by the dealer after purchase - is one of the neatest I have ever seen. As for towability, it just does it without any fuss and there is always plenty of pulling power available; I currently tow a Bailey Monarch and the 170 does it with ease. The back brake pads (2010 model) became 'sticky', but I followed the excellent advice given by 'The Plumber' and they are now working well - especially with a light coating of copaslip on the sliders! I am critical about my cars, but I can't find anything wrong with the 170!!

Don't think about it - Just Do It! You will never regret it.

Regards.

I've had a scirocco and a R and just ordered my second Yeti, and replaced the R with an A5 cab. My Yeti is the 140 because I wanted dsg as both my rocs were dsg. I would go for leather so much easier to keep clean. I would also go for the highest spec basic car rather than add spec to a lower model you never get the value of the extras back on trade in. I paid 3500 for recarro seats in the r didn't add a penny when traded in. The new L&K has everything you would need.

I have a 170 Elegance and it's the best all round car I've ever had.

And I've had a few.

+1

Minor shortcomings - but nothing to deter me from replacing it with another Yeti (in about 5 years!)

I love the 170 elegance spec. Engine fit for anything and I like the leather seats. A wonderful well spec car which today had its 1st service on its 2nd birthday with a 100% bill of health and indeed its first visit to dealer since I took delivery.

Excellent guys thanks for your views. Great to read such high praise for these amazing vehicles

On my 2nd, from a 140 elegance to a 1.8 L&K-unhappily my daily driving pattern meant the Diesel isn't for me otherwise I'd have gone 170. The 160 horse petrol is a cracker and a lighter, livelier drive.

There are options that are available with the elegance that are not available with the lower spec levels.

The most important option for me was the electric seat. You also get things like puddle lights and a few other bits as well.
