cheers guys, much appreciated!

Agree with the other 2. Got the 096 Bosch S5 in mine.

Mine went on my 07 back in Feb got a more powerful one. Gave very little warning just failed to start one morning. The back wiper would stop half way around that was really the only sign it was on the way out maybe a bit slow to turn over on on a cold morning

The one I needed best price £90 online . Happened to look in Costco, £53! Half the price of Halfords and not a special offer either.

Bosch S5 Silver or the Varta version of the same.

When I got my Bosch, Varta made them and the varta was exactly the same.

Usually the Varta are cheaper, but I got a good discount on the Bosch.

What's the official size code for these batteries to fit an Octy2? Is it 096? My local will have to order one in (euro battery sizes are not common here and don't match most US/Jap stuff). We can match it up on size, but want to confirm any codes. The original has only VAG part codes.

From what I've read they put a puny effort of a battery on there originally. Most seem to replace them with an 096.

096 is what you need.

The way nornal batteries work mean the oem ones are rubbish.

Ive just bought a 60ah battery for £220 but it wipes the floor with the oem and it starts so much better

if anyones interested the battery I bought was an XS Power XE12-60. 60ah, 600+ cca and over 3000amps peak output
