  • considering all 4 tyres give you a contact patch around t he size of an A4 piece of paper I'm happy not to take the risk on cheap rubber also you are happy to save £60 on tyres when your car must be

Even things like stopping distances are improved with the premium tyres as shown in tyre tests (such as Evo etc). Its a false economy penny pinching here. Why would you buy a tyre from a no name brand rather than ones which have been around for decades?

I'll get slated for this, but I've got HiFly HF805s on mine (came with the car), pretty damn surprised just how well they hang on in the dry. In the wet they're typically ropey as with any budget tyre, but the ASR seems to do a good job of catching any silly moments (I refuse to do anything other than gently tool along in anything other than dry bright sunshine due to the state of the roads round here).

Only downside is that in 6k miles I've *******sed the front pair (told you I drive them hard ;) )

I'm not going to involved with the "my tyres are better than your tyres" debate, but with regard to the 205 versus the 225 I found the 205 to be the better tyre size.

I have always fitted quality tyres to my Vrs, and on one occasion fitted 225/40/17 Goodyear Eagles as that size is more friendly on the pocket.

I found the ride uncomfortable and noisy plus the fuel consumption was knocked back by around 4-5 mpg.

After 6 months I got so tired of them I had them taken off and went back to 205's.

Thats why you fit 45s :)

HiFly?

Im running kumhos on the vrs octy and verdistein sportrac 3 on my mk4 golf and i prefer the kumhos. The sportrac i find very noisy and u have to run them at a higher pressure than normal tyres. I used to work in a tyre place and always found kumhos good.

which kumhos you running?

KU39's on mine as mentioned previously in 225/45/17. Does tramline more than the 205's did when giving it some.

Ill have a check later. I just stuck to the 205s. The 225s were only a couple of quid cheaper so thought just keep it original size.

Just checked kh31 kumhos. I dont drive the car hard as its the family car but i think they do the job

thanks guys, so either ku39s or kh31s anyone tried both?

are they the same tyre?

I know kumho changed their branding of some tyres so they could well just be the new name for the same tyre.

either way they will be a decent budget tyre

KU31s are very decent for the money

I think kumho stopped making kh39s and replaced them with ku31

Yeah I've had them in the past, not too bad really although the car they were on wasn't the quickest

I think kumho stopped making kh39s and replaced them with ku31

Other way round, the Kumho KU31 is now classed as discontinued and the new placement is the KU39

Another vote for Falkens!

Got 452s on at the moment, although I need a pair soon so will be getting 453s - in 225/45R17 size

Go for the 205's. better mpg and less tramlining

Trust me my research is extensive
