slipping clutch-skoda felly 1.6

Featured Replies

Hi all, the ckutch on our t reg 1.6 petrol felicia started to slip badly yestetday. We need the car for another month as it was only bought as a runaround while working on our campervan. My question is can anything be bodged to just prolong the life for a bit such as tightening the clutch cable etc...or is it a case of bite the bullet and replace the clutch?! Any ideas of approx cost for a garage to do the work? I can do it but pushed for time thats all.

Cheers!

Mark :)

Nothing to be done if the cable is adjusted properly. You can try slackening it off a couple of turns and see if that helps, but if not then it's new clutch o'clock.

Garage? £250? TBH I've only had 3 things done by garages ever so I'm not really up on it. Clutch kit should be sub-£100, it's 2 hours to do, a bit less if you encounter no rusty bolts or other issues. I'd say they'd probably charge you for 3-4 hours?

Had a ring around some garages and theyre all saying around £200. I can get a brand new LUK clutch kit for just over £40 locally so will be doing it myself tomorrow :) Hopefuly things will go ok?!

Anyone know if i can get away without removing drivers side driveshaft?? I mean obviously disconnecting it from the gearbox but leaving it as is at the hub end?? Only got 1 axle stand thats all as theyre holding our campervan up while its engine is out!

:)

no.. leave the shafts in the box otherwise you will need to drain the gearbox oil then refill it afterwards which is a pain up the hoop to do. don't be tempted to place the weight of the car on its wheel with a driveshaft removed or you ruin the wheel bearing.

All fixed and working great!! Dropped the gearbox oil before reading this last reply! Wasn't too hard to refill etc. Just needed a long piece of pipe!

Problem was apparent as soon as i removed the gearbox...bits of the clutch release bearing were everywhere!!

I'd bought a clutch kit so replaced the lot.

HAPPY DAYS!!! :)

Glad you sussed it boss. Just bringing back memories of my first Felly (what a shed) trying to get up steep banks with four mates in... I ended up going backwards the clutch was that shagged

What sort of mileage do clutches on the 1.6 need replacing at typically? I know it depends on how its been driven, but as a rough idea?

I'd expect to get at least 80k from a clutch.

^ Yep I'd go with that. Touch wood I've always faired quite well on the clutch front & one of the earlier ones was the Fun, 51k when bought & replaced at around 60k. Did over 100k in my old Felly estate with no issues. Just so dependant on component quality & of course the dreaded driving style! :smirk:;)

Thanks. My Fun is still under 50k and although fitted with a tow bar it looked unused when I bought it. I have a small Erde 142 trailer used for taking small loads to the local tip, but wouldn't want to tow anything too heavy (e.g. boat up a slipway) as the power doesn't feel there in the same way as with my diesel Octavia (unsurprisingly). No clutch slip, but no real torque either.

Hi, nice to have a sub 50k Fun. Mine's just turned 113k and although still sweet she just complains a little more, not unlike getting older & the aches/pains that come with it!

Mine has a tow bar but again suspect it's been little used. The council waste sites down here won't let pick ups in so have to rely on trying to stuff everything in the back of the Fabia!! :wall:

Hope you've had a cool weekend ;)
