Monster truck crushes Octy (and others)

"CARS and property were wrecked as a 40-tonne earth-mover left a trail of destruction on an estate.

The six-wheel truck, which came from the construction site of the West Malling and Leybourne bypass near Junction 4 of the M20, entered East Malling via Chapman Way at about 4pm on Monday and drove around the estate for 10 minutes, terrifying residents and decimating cars and property.

One car was reduced to a mangled wreck when it was pushed about 100 metres sideways along Temple Way.

Twelve vehicles, four gar-ages, a wall and a telegraph pole were either destroyed or damaged in the incident.

No one was injured.

A spokesman for Kent Police said the truck also drove into a mini digger and compressor, narrowly missing workmen.

A Temple Way resident chased the truck along Chapman Way and into Lime Crescent where it was brought to a halt, before police arrived.

Residents said it was like being on the set of a Hollywood blockbuster.

Eyewitness Stuart Fraser, of Temple Way, East Malling, said: "When I saw it my jaw dropped.

"It was the most frightening thing I have ever seen."

Tonbridge and Malling Borough Council was tasked with the clear up operation, including the removal of a number of flattened vehicles.
