So, who got a litre of oil with their car?

This is news to me - where does the expectation of getting oil come from?

What I am trying to find out is if the provision of a litre of oil with every new car is mandatory, expected or just complimentary. Many people on the forum appear to have been provided with a litre of oil with their cars, but when I collected my there wasn't any. I wanted know if I had the 'right' to the oil or if it was purely at the dealers discretion. It seems to be a good will gesture that most dealers do but mine has not and I will be visiting them tomorrow to request one.

Let's see what they say.....

The Citigo is the first car I've had that has had a top-up bottle of oil supplied. My sister got her Citigo only about a month ago and she also had the bottle of oil. It seems to be a standard thing with Citigos, so if it's not there, ask some questions.

Dad got a bottle with his Yeti and his Superb and i also got one with my octavia i think its down to the dealers.

Ash's car wasn't new (ex press car) but she got a litre after just having its years service! (5,000 miles) thanks service dept. it didn't use a drop during the first year (and 1,000 miles of that will have been thrashed by journo's) so this litre will probably be going in my vRS :p

I think this is a dealer specific thing. I went in today and and was given a bottle of Shell Helix in a bag with two cardboard funnels and wiping cloths etc. It meets the VW502 00 spec requirements, so I am happy.

The only thing that struck me as odd is the guy I asked on the phone before dropping in said that I should have had a bottle with the car. He then said he would have to check with the salesman. When asked 'why?' he said that he would have to authorise it. Now perhaps I'm seeing a mystery where none exists, but it seemed an odd statement to make!!

Anyhoo, I have oil, the sun is shining and all is right with the world!! :sun:

+1 Got a litre of oil in it's little pouch with our 60ps Elegance Greentech last July when we picked it up. Also with our yeti when we got that in September.

Yep - got the gizzits.

When I collected my new Citigo Elegance Greentech 75PS on May 3rd 2013, I too received the complimentary 1litre of Castrol Edge Professional Longlife III 5W-30 oil in the specially designed pack with Velcro on the rear.

+1 for yeti and citigo, on previous VAG serviced cars I also got a litre of oil, but I have to say I have never needed to open any of them, I have at least 6 of different varieties in the garage!

I got the oil for my elegance greentech 60ps - didn't have it for either of my new Fabias.

No oil for me. Not sure it's worth a 30 mile round trip to pick it up, but still disappointing if it's standard practice.

I got the 1L bottle of oil with my Citigo too :)

Got one with my Monte too. ;)

Got mine when I picked mine up in September

Do you think they'll use longlife for the first service? seems pointless at 10,000 intervals.

Both Octy's I've bought in the last 2 years have had the oil, complete with the nylon fabric holder that velco's in the space behind the O/S rear wheel arch. Might at least indentify if this is a model based issue?

I got it in the Citigo but not in the Yeti.

I got a new bottle recently as the old one I had ran out, I went to halfords and it was a litre bottle again, different packaging but same oil code, and not had to open the new one yet, with 21000 mile on the clock

The owners manual wallet states that Skoda recommends Castrol Edge Professional.  My dealer, however, recommends whatever he has loads of in his stock room. In this case Shell Helix, which is good stuff also.  Whatever oil you get so long as it meets the VW 502 00 specification requirements then it is good to use.

502.00 is the one what I would like to use. We have fixed service intervals 15 000km/ 1 year. Is there any reason why I should use better oil? I guess not.

Can anyone offer advice as to which Oil for our Citigo. On the Castrol Website it says Castrol Edge 5W-30. However I have been offered Castrol Edge (FST) 5W-40 which meets the VW 502 00/505 00. So is it horses for courses or worth sticking to the 5W-30?

Amazed, just read this thread and popped out to check my wife's citigo boot and there is a little black bag with a litre of Castro oil :)

Nothing in the boot of my nearly new Octavia vRS, it was an ex demo so think it has been had :(

Cheers

Farmers told me all their cars should get. Had it on the Fabia, but with the vRS it wasn't the last one i bought...
