So, who got a litre of oil with their car?

Featured Replies

As the title says really. I picked up my car on Friday the 24th of May. As I had opted for the guardex treatment there was a bag with some goodies from guardex in the boot. When I got home I opened said bag to see if a bottle of oil was also in there but there wasn't any. My question is should I have been given a litre of oil with my car or is it entirely at the dealers discretion?

I also expected the washer bottle to be filled to the max mark but I couldn't even see the fluid in the pipe up to the cap..... :swear:

Both Octy's I've bought in the last 2 years have had the oil, complete with the nylon fabric holder that velco's in the space behind the O/S rear wheel arch. Might at least indentify if this is a model based issue?

I had oil in mine too.

As far as the washer pipe goes, there is no level mark. You have to fill it until it comes to the top.

my GLII had a litre of the Castrol good stuff in nylon bag rear passenger side cubby in boot

My superb had a bottle of 5w30 Castrol in the boot in a wee Velcro bag, think it is the dealer who supply's the car not the car itself

Thanks for the responses guys. Do they only give oil for certain engine types? What about the Citigo specifically? If it is a factory requirement to give a litre of oil then I'm going to go back to the dealer to demand mine!!

My Elegance had the oil in it's own little bag.

Mine had a bottle as well

Every Skoda I've ever bought has come with a litre of oil in a nice little bag.

It seems to be standard proceedure, unless your dealer is pinching it to save £5.

Hopefully you wouldn't use ANY oil between services, so rather pointless to include oil??

Dealer supplies oil suitable for the vehicle.

When running in a new car there is a greater likelihood of using oil, hence its (seemingly) usual inclusion.

I'd ask the dealer for it.

Mine also had a litre of oil in a nifty little bag that velcoed onto the rear of the back. It meant that I didn't have to research what was the correct oil as well as saving me a trip to Halfords to stock up. With a new car there is always a possibility you may need to top up during the running in period. If I were you I'd ask your dealer to stump up.

Yep got my oil as well.

I like the fact that its velcroed in the boot to stop it banging away

Cheers

Citigo is the first to come with a bottle of oil. But its standard from the dealer I bought from on all new cars. My aunt and uncle got one with theirs from a different dealer. The reason told to them is that the citigo engine uses a little oil so will need a top up.

Saying that 2600 miles on mine and not a drop used.......I guess it will only notice a drop after a few more thousand of miles.

4k on mine, not had to open that oil yet

The oil supplied (Castrol Edge Professional) isn't widely available (dealers only?) and is pricey.

You can get 4L from Asda for £37.00 (you can get a further £2.00 discount online and collect in store). Halfords have 4L for 46.99 or 1L for £19.00.

The oil available at Asda and Halfords doesn't have the "Professional" description - though what the difference between the two oils is, could be marginal. In fact, it could be just the label!

I have the litre bottle too. Haven't needed a drop of it yet, even after the 100 mile Italian tune-up :D

This was the oil specified when searching using the find the right oil for your car option in Halford's and castrol websites

According to the manual, so long as the oil meets VW 502 00 spec then it is acceptable. They sell the non-pro stuff at our Tesco and it states that it meets that spec. Sadly Crisp'n'dry doesn't!! :giggle:

I thought it was a first aid kit when i first seen the pouch attached to the back of the rear seats

This is news to me - where does the expectation of getting oil come from?
