Apologies in advance as I have rambled on somewhat, feel free to ignore.

It all started the other day when as usual the UK spring was delighting us all with a nice cold morning. The alarm went off and following the usual coffee and shower (not together) it would be time to go out. Looking at my watch I noticed that I had plenty of time to get where I wanted to be so another coffee and a slice of toast should be enjoyed whilst watching the BBC news on the telly box. It was then that I noticed the news at 7:00! What! I should have been at my destination at 7:00, a quick look at the watch kindly showing 6:15 gave the game away, battery was going so a quick swap to backup watch and toast crumbs down my shirt we were on the way. Knowing that I was late Jana (the Yeti) was released from her tether and we were on the way over some less than perfect surfaced roads with the Bolero playing ZZ Top album Eliminator (some of the best driving music).

Later that day on the way home with the Bolero silenced could clearly hear some irritating rattle, It was one of those clicking metallic rattles, not all the time but did not make much difference regardless of the engine speed or car speed for that matter. It was incredibly irritating to say the least.

I could not quite place where it was from so at the traffic lights I emptied the contents of the glove box onto the passenger seat where for a short time the rattle stopped. Back on the open road it was back. After pressing and pushing ever part of trim in reach sometimes the rattle would go or become even more pronounced. All I could tell was that it was from the passenger side.

Back at home the boot was emptied of the collapsible carrying crates (known for rattling) along with the glove box contents and anything that was in the door bins. All unused seat belts were clipped into there associated buckles and off we went once again. I could still hear that rattle! A quick stop to check if anything was playing silly under the seats but all was well. Rocking, pushing and adjusting all the seats just in case they were not quite sitting properly and off we went. The rattle continued to accompany me. Thoughts of a visit to the vet were not on my list of favorite things to do. My fears were increasing... Had I pushed Jana a tad too hard? Had I damaged something driving with a modicum of spirit over the less than perfect tarmac? I was worried. Was Jana ill?

I gave up, the sun was now out and it had got a lot warmer. I decided to open the sun roof to get some more air. That rattle although not continuous was still about but the wind noise drowned it tad. Slowing to a set of lights an insect having heard how good they are decided that inside the Yeti would be an interesting place to reside for a while.. landing right on my left ear! With the reactions that would have put a Shaulin Monk to shame I swiped at my left ear to free the new passenger from my head. At which point my backup watch wrist strap came undone and as if by magic the rattle went!.

Yup, that rattle was from the metal watch strap so mystery solved however as to the whereabouts of my new found insect passenger that dropped in? That mystery is still open.

Wish all rattles were as easy as that to fix. Nice and simple Oh and cheap..

Similar experience, turned to be I'd put my sunglasses in the holder and they were catching the lid. Took ages to find the cause for the rattle. I check they are correctly seated every time they are return to the holder.

Hairball, I think you're only putting into words what probably a good few of us have done in one form or another. Hilarious, been there myself!

after 28 years of being with or married to swmbo my selective hearing is that well developed I can tune out rattle, creaks, groans and nagging at the drop of a hat, so I never notice any , and those are all from swmbo

as to the car, never heard any so must work with same from car :)
