Cambelt change advice please.

Hopefully this wont turn into every other thread about cambelts & the 4 year rule.

These do usually (already). But there are three more questions to give opinions on as well.,,

I just had my belt done 2 weeks ago, and at the time i priced it up getting the parts and a mechanic to fit was coming in around the €400-450 mark, but the irish dealers are doing great deals on belts at the minute, so dealer supplied belt and water pump with 2 year warranty for €350

The mechanic couldn't compete with it.

Looks like the price has gone back up a bit, but basically each dealer was running this with a variation in price

Just priced mine to be done at Pulman in Durham, Belt, tensioner, Water pump and 'aux' belt for £485 with a 2 year warranty.. Costly..

See post #3: £349 for cam belt + £100 for water pump = £36 for the Aux belt.

Sounds a little steep given the cost of the part and that everything is out at the same time but, as you say, you do have the full Skoda 2 Year warranty.

I also use Pulmans in Durham - you need to negotiate

They've price matched Skoda's National Pricing for me many times before including the cambelt and waterpump.

They are an official Skoda service and warranty repair centre, they just don't sell new or used Skoda's - only VW's.

They said they would price match anywhere (Skoda dealer i assume) i found cheaper..
