Park Distance Control / Front Assist

Featured Replies

From what I've read I believe that the Park Distance Control (PDC) is in effect rear sensors only and that the only modification / option to that is the Parking Assist, but does anyone know with the introduction of Front Assist does that also bring with it front parking sensors as well ?

Isnt it great when you go to collect your new car, as long as its not peeing down which spoils it a bit by actually getting it dirty ! Give it a good look over - that's what I like about these forums

  • Sorry matey, you ask a innocent question and this ensues!! I'm sure you'll enjoy your new car when it arrives

  • So far my dealer, Sparshatts of Botley, Southampton, have been very good. I was emailed as soon as they knew the production week, again when the car had been shipped to Emden and again when the car wa

Don't think so, front assist is the radar, for collision avoidance and acc control. You get front and side sensors with the park assist, and voodoo steering wheel control! :giggle:

Thanks Matt - yeah not sure I'm quite ready to share the car with an alloy kerbing ghost just yet (although from clips I've seen it is really impressive). Thought I'd seen front sensors as a half way house option in other countries but not on uk spec, but from various threads the difference between countries seems pretty vast anyway so no surprise there !

It always seems an odd one this as I find on the Yeti the front and rear parking sensors are one of the most useful features on the car, with no more craning of necks turning round to look at everything. It looks like if you want front sensors on the Octy you have to have the full park assist function, which is a lot of money and you also seem to be paying for something twice, ie elegance gives you the rear parking sensors anyway.

Funnily enough I'm actually going from the yeti to the Octavia myself, hence a similar thought process. I wouln't be at all surprised if it was one of those options that comes along in a little while.

They did have the option on the Superb, when I ordered that 4 years ago, to have front sensors only for about £300 (rears standard) or an extra £150 on top of that got you full park assist. Having lived with it for 4 years, only used the parking feature about twice but that was parallel only, no bay parking option or parallel exit option. I did find the additional side sensors useful though as they work as normal sensors too, so for the extra £150, I would still go full park assist. I'll let you know how I get on with the bay parking voodoo!

I have tried this on octy 3 in both a manual and dsg, and both parallel and bay. Real funny but also real spooky the first time.. :peek:

If I'd realised the increased functionality of this generation of park assist over the previous generation, I think I'd have specced.

Front Assist is now on the UK configurator as a no-cost option. Adaptive Cruise Control is available also as a no option from build week 26. Strangely you can't spec both, assume that Front Assist comes as part of ACC as it also uses the front radar? The list price seems to have increased by £100, but even so good value for those two extras.

My Elegance was built on week 22 (MY14) will that come with ACC or front assist?

Not if the configurator is correct - ACC will only be included 4 weeks after your car was built! Don't know about Front Assist I guess your dealer would be the best one to ask

If it is no cost why cant they just include it as standard . Don't understand this ? My Car built week is 26, i will be losing out on this ? I guess.

From my notes of a conversation I had with my dealer "Front assistant will be standard on Elegance models from week 27 (starting 1 July 2013), not week 22 as previously communicated.". My car is being build this week (Week 23 I think) so I will have an "MY14" car, but without Traffic Sign Recognition and Front Assist. It is only now that I realise that I will not get the fancy cruise control too. I don't really care about Adaptive, but I would have liked the separate stalk for cruise (like on my Audi) as it seems nicer to use than the rocker on the indicator stalk.

I assume that they would have liked to include these other bits in MY14, but for some reason (technical?) it slipped.

Can customers who missed on these request SUK to retro-fit them ?

Traffic sign recognition is optional and only available in conjunction with the Columbus sat nav - but why would you want it? Watching out for speed limits is part and parcel of normal driving surely?

I couldn't agree more! I didn't say I wanted it, I just said that I wouldn't get it (and as it says in my sig, I have ordered Columbus).

Likewise Adaptive Cruise Control - I like cruise control, but I can see if I am getting too close to something all by myself.

Also, this will be my first car in 32 years of driving, with parking sensors. I have never felt the need for them before, so I wouldn't have specced them, but they come as standard on Elegance.

be nice to know ! as i think mine is build week 25

I doubt it very much indeed as its never been offered before and they do state clearly that the specifications may change throughout the models life cycle. :)

I know. I am being too optimistic here. But Worth a try i think!!!!

My dealer service is not great at all. He always promises me to call back but never do. I am still waiting for him to confirm my exact build date and if i am allowed to make any changes to my order.

My dealers exactly the same!

Thought skoda dealers were different !!!they are ATM worse than any other dealers shame!

Yup, mine is the same too, I had to ring him to find out when my build date is!

So far my dealer, Sparshatts of Botley, Southampton, have been very good. I was emailed as soon as they knew the production week, again when the car had been shipped to Emden and again when the car was due at the dealers. Went in there this afternoon, got my first look at my new Octavia, (interesting, their demo car had ill fitting door seals, mine was fine - maybe this was an issue with one early batch of cars). SD card already in the navigation, boot net on order. Gone for door guards and the Mitsumi cable. Decided to leave the front mudflaps for now, may fit later. Paperwork all sorted out. Collection arranged for Friday PM.

New post with first impressions and photos to follow!

Give it a good look over - that's what I like about these forums, if there are any potential problems you know where to look before you accept the car.

Enjoy

Just spoke to Sparshatts about the Front Assist, and they have checked and emailed me back.

"Just following on from our conversation, the Front Assist is available from week 22.

Week 22 was last week, your vehicle will come with Front Assist as standard."

Which dealer is right?

BTW - Looks like they just posted the adaptive cruise control that was meant to be included in elegance... £450?!?!??!!
