Remove EGR Valve - 2.0 TDI PD vRS

Featured Replies

Can anybody offer any helpful tips on how to remove the EGR valve for a clean?

I know its connected the ASV and I've removed the long bolt as well as the front one holding the EGR to the intake. But I cannot get the rear EGR screw/bolt out, I can't even get a torx bit in the screw.

The side EGR intake pipe is blocking access to the bolt, but even with the 2 bolts out of that, it won't move an inch.

I'm thinking I either need to remove the whole EGR intake pipe from around the block, or remove the complete air intake.

Another theory I had today was to remove the ASV valve and that might clear some access to the bolt.

Any advice?

It is doable although those back 2 bolts are awkward to get at, I think I used a 1/4 inch ratchet due to the space. Be careful when reassembling that the boost hose seal is in good condition and correctly seated otherwise you will get stuttery running as the pipe pops on and off

I'm still having a nightmare with this. I can't even fit the 1/4 ratchet in, nor a swivel head bit.

I now need to remove the EGR so I can remove the intake manifold, since I've discovered a faulty diaphragm for the intake manifold flaps (swirl flaps) These are permanently stuck open (no vacuum) so I have no torque below 2k.

I'm hoping to remove the ASV to give me more space, hopefully then I can get this damm bolt out.

I did the same on an Audi A3 2.0 TDI BKD the other day which was a diddle. I think its because the Skoda uses an electric operated EGR with slightly different mounts.

Anyone able to offer any advice? I've got the parts ordered and I should be doing this next week.

(Just hope the flaps are ok and I don't need a whole new manifold.)

I tried and epically failed. I THINK that if you follow the long egr pipe back, there is a bolt on the front of the block that is quite well hidden amongst pipeage. if it is loosened off, the pipe can be moved a little to get access. I would say it is on the front of the block to the right hand side.

let me know how you go, I don't have a long enough ratchet to get in there without moving the pipes and wires.

good luck!

I've had a look and it's well hidden. I'll be battling this in the next few days as I've got the parts now.

I think removing the air intake might give some more room

11mm (strange size TBH but a 10mm deffo wouldn't fit when I was doing it) socket on an extension and it's easy enough to loosen off a bit to get the movement on the pipe required to get at that EGR valve bolt.

It was exactly this!

If you look at the right hand side of the filter housing you'll see an 11mm nut looking straight at you. Took me a while to see it as its well hidden. I managed to get to it using an extension bar, 11mm socket and a wobbly arm bit thing. When loose it's enough to move the pipe to get and allen key underneath the bolt.

It was also easier to remove the ASV first.

Vacuum unit replaced ! It now moves on part throttle, shutting the extra intake holes. Car feels like it has a bit more torque.

Next step, replace the fuel filter and fit a restricting EGR gasket.
