Someone vandalised my Monte :(

Recommended Posts

At some point last Friday when i was at work somebody has either taken a hammer to the drivers door or shot it with something. Absolutely gutted to say the least.

The car was parked in the car park at work at the time, on the end space so the drivers door was next to the grass rather than another space. Nobody saw anything, no clues, no CCTV unfortunately. All i know is somebody knows they have done for one reason or another which i am completely unaware of.

Now to try and get it repaired....

Any advice? going to use the insurance i think.

Bet you are absolutely sick! Not sure there is much anyone will be able to give in the way of advice. Maybe advise your insurers then get some quotes to see what it's going to cost. Ask around to see if anyone can recommend a good body shop that don't charge the earth.

If you have to go down the route of using your insurance work out what that may cost in increased premiums in the long run

My Daughter bought a brand new Juke and had it keyed front to back in the first 2 months, I feel your pain. On the plus side, body shops today are amazing and a good one will repair without any hint of the initial damage.

Good luck, it will be interesting to hear how you get on with it. IF you find out who did it, don't take any prisoners! :punch:

Totally sickened for you...sounds like `green eyes of the yellow God` from some idiot too lazy to work for what you have done.If you do it through the Insurance, you may have to report it to the `Bizzies`, although Insurance Companies are now realising this is a total waste of time, so just be aware you might have to..Good luck though

Very sad to hear this; totally senseless which probably sums up the waste of a skin culprit.

Regard repair then unless your pockets are fairly deep it's likely to be an insurance job. They may tell you to take it to their authorised repairer but you can insist on one of your choosing. Best to try find one on recommendation, as not all are good, even those which are VAG approved can turn out poor work as I found with a warranty paint repair with our previous Fabia.

Hope you can get it sorted soon,

TP

Sorry to hear this!

You need to report this to your local police force for them to generate you a crime number which should aid you with your insurance company.

Good luck.

+1 ^^^^. I'd feel much the same as you so you have my sympathy. Probably stating the obvious but maybe avoid parking in that space again, though as I'll walk some distance so I can park away from other cars I can inderstand why you parked there-let them damage someone elses car next time. Is the paint scratched? If not someone like dentmaster might be worth a call first before you try the insurance company. It might be worth trying a few local body shops/chipsaway first to see what they will charge so you can take your excess into account to see which is the lesser of the 2 evils. Best of luck

Parked next to grass? Didn't cut the grass that day and strim?

Have seen the damage from a strimmer if it flicks a stone etc.

Otherwise as above, park near a camera.

Things like this are the reason why I mostly hate the general public. No respect for other people's possessions, even if it was an accident a simple note of apology would at least let you know it wasn't a vindictive act but most people are too thoughtless/cowardly to do even that :(

Most pro valeting services offer bodywork repair services and in general they do a good job, afraid I don't know of any in the Perth area but a good 10 minutes on Google should find a few. Failing that a specialist dent repair place should probably be your first call, I imagine the quotes for doing the work are going to vary a lot. Good luck finding someone to fix your car up for you!

Perth has one of the biggest National Vehicle Repairers under the Friarton Bridge.

Lots of cars need & get painting & dents removed up here.

http://www.perthmotormile.com

I would be claiming from the Insurance i think.

If not, there are plenty very high standard Bodywork Repair Businesses in the area.

Worth getting a quote for a Private Repair, depends on your Excess and other Insurance details.

(Maybe Ask T&P Burrelton who they use for body/paintwork.)

?Was there grass cutting going on?

What Car Park was it at, Not Bell Sports Centre is it.

Or is it a Council One someplace..

?? Is your car the One i see lots with the Kayaks on it?

Last Thursday night, Dunkeld/Crieff Road circle.

(PM if you like.)

This is an excellent point made, having spent 20+ years in the parks and gardens line of work I can vouch for seeing many broken windscreens from strimmers and mowers after they flick a stone. I personally hit a stone once (accidentally of course) and it shot out like a bullet from the side exit of my mowing deck, it travelled about 20 metres before hitting a perspex sign and shattering it like a bullet hole.

My dad smashed the window on our van strimming!!

Council strimmed fine grit and stones against the side if my mk1 vrs, stone chops galore - nasty letter and 6 months later they paid for respray of side of car.

Bad luck and I hope you can get it sorted to a good standard.

On a lighter note, I once tried to polish out a 'scratch' (was fuming at the time) but it turned out to be a reflection from a window and no end of eblow grease was moving that one!

Doh!

All the very best with it, i would say that if you are NOT going to go via insurance then don't even mention it to them or your premiums will increase anyway. I would report it to the police, they should have an accurate record of what offences are taking place and you never know what intelligence they have on their local offenders. Good luck.

Thanks for your replies, got the local Police round the other day to have a look and to give me a report reference number.

I work as a driving instructor for Land Rover, the car park is fairly quiet with no CCTV anywhere unfortunately. The grass had been cut, but i checked with the Groundsman who assured me it was the day before which seemed to match up with what other people were saying.

So i don't have the faintest idea what happened, i just hope its not a personal attack!

Got a couple of quotes now from local repairers, both of them saying that they could repair it and fill it? I thought a new door skin would be on the cards? Is filling a good idea with a car that is only 5 months old?

Clutching at straws but I don't suppose it could'v'e happened the day before and you not notice it, is there any other evidence of grass clippings stuck to the car? Maybe you were parked in a place that it wasn't so obvious to notice, maybe it was raining and you were in a rush?

I thought of that as well, however its right on the drivers door only a couple of inches from the door handle. Before work that morning, i got in the car then went to the fuel station before work. So i am sure i would notice it, well i hope i would!

As long as it's done correctly and they get a good key for the filler to bond to by rubbing the paintwork down beforehand there should be no problems with using filler. I had a large dink done on my blackline over the front headlight after being hit by some debris on the M5 and you can't tell it's been done (now) I had to take mine back because the clear coat had a couple of blemishes in it which they sorted. The reason I didn't spot them initially was because it was a cloudy day with flat light when I picked the car up so best check it in various types of light befor your happy- a bright evening with the car not being in direct sunlight shows most issues including any swirl marks left by incorrect polishing. One other thing ti be wary of is that most repairers quote ex vat, so you could end up with a bill for 20% more than you thought!

I know that feeling of anger and frustration. When my Fab was just months old - some %$&£ keyed the NSF door. I had this done at a cost of £400, and the dealer did an exceptional job.

Two days after it was collected, the same door became a victim of our local supermarket trolley pushers!! - admittedly just a little chip which touched in quite well.

One month later, another %$&£ keyed the NSF and NSR door. Quoted £800 for this repair. On both occasions this was done in broad daylight, and mine was not the only car that was vandalised on both those occasions.

There are some brain dead sick people out there!

This isn't exactly PC or liberal but I believe wanton acts like this deserve the old testiment treatment. The chopping off of a few fingers would IMO be a suitable punnishment and deterrant as low life who do such things generally have no fear of the law. You wouldn't get too many repeat offenders as they wouldn't be able to hold the key!

I don't know if its all been sorted yet but.....With new skodas, along with the usual 3 years free servicing, warranty etc, you also get 3 years of skoda Ensure. if ya haven't heard of it, basically its a middle man for your insurance. you call them (Skoda ensure) and tell them what's happened, they work with your insurance and arrange repair with a Skoda garage using skoda parts and paints etc and it dosen't cost any more!

Worth calling them: 0845 900 3650 open 24/7

There website: https://www.insurewithskoda.co.uk/Products/Ensurance/

But this all depends on how old your car is...

Oh and you don't have to have Skoda insurance.....

Good luck..
