What is it worth?

Featured Replies

After a few guestimates on what my car is worth - it isn't for sale but I need to do the sums to see what I can afford and if I can afford to change anytime in the next 6 months.

Octy L&K Estate, 55 plate 2006MY 2.0 TDI PD140 Manual 170,000 miles.

All the usual L&K goodies, full leather, MFSW, dual zone climate, maxidot, auto dimming mirrors, tunnel lights, memory seat and mirrors, variable boot floor etc.

Mods are

18" Zeniths with Conti SC5 tyres

Original 16" Vega alloys with Conti winter tyres

Columbus sat nav and upgraded can gateway

Upgraded CECM to enable cornering fogs

Upgraded CCM to enable auto rain closing

Dension Gateway Five hands free Bluetooth with MDI functionality and ipod USB and aux in

Hid upgrade

Bilstein B12 suspension

312mm front brake upgrade

Darkside EGR delete including EGR cooler

Shark Stage 1 remap

Full service history and I am the third owner.

With the spec of the car this is going to sell to an enthusiast if and when I do change, so what do you reckon it is worth roughly?

It is fastidiously maintained, my cousin is a time served rally mechanic and does all the servicing and mechanical upgrades on the car, no expense spared and genuine parts used every time. Mike Holroyd and Evil Myagi can vouch for the above.

Thoughts guys?

As you suggest you need to appeal to an enthusiast to maximise the value. The mileage is high so will limit what you can get.

I suspect you will be best appealing to someone who knows the brand well and preferably your car and or level of care and knowledge. I would suggest that means this forum.

L&K goodies count for a bit if your potential buyers like that sort of thing, and your extra mods are definitely worth a bit. If your not in a rush I think you could possibly get £4.5k as a very rough guess and sell the Zeniths separately.

If you get no joy would then suggest you strip out and sell the Columbus, Denison, Shark unit and a couple of other bits assuming you have the old Stream? and take the hit on a trade in.

I understand you might like a new car and that is fine but if you are not absolutely determined just yet, I'd suggest keeping this until the Octy III and facelift Superb bed in and nearly new prices drop a bit. Assuming you are sticking to the brand???

tbh you will need to sell it to an enthusiast to get a good price. To anyone else is nothing more than a 140bhp octy estate derv with high miles

The hid upgrade. Is that a proper upgrade or just a hid kit fitted? You might loose potential sales as some might be off put by aftermarket hid's

If you're considering selling it on you probably have a couple of choices; aim it at an enthusiast or try and sell it on here but you'll still have its age and mileage going against it if you price it strongly.

Alternatively youre better bet might be to return the car to completely standard form and sell it and the mod parts separately. Probably sell the car easier and make more money in the process.

Cheers guys, I was hoping it would be worth around 4 as it stands complete with the extra winter wheels.

I have all the original modules, but not the stream, and not the original struts and springs as they were shot LOL.

Worth thinking about as my job moves to a new location in August so will be getting the bus to work (haven't done that for over 25 years!) and my mileage will plummet.

Intend to keep with the brand, estate is essential for fishing tackle and family (in that order of priority), so a late Superb or Octy II might be the way to go, or even new if there are some deals going in the late Autumn.

All food for thought, thanks.

Hid upgrade is aftermarket, can be easily removed and put back to standard.

Deal - I did say it was for a photo of the car didn't I?

Had a quick look on auto trader and there are a couple on there - about £3500 gets you a standard L&K with 120,000 miles or so - from a trader.

There's one optimist who wants £5500 for a car with 210,000 miles (unless its a typo).

I'm actually quite surprised. When I first read the £4500 above, my gut feel was that it was getting on for double the actual value!

Ok, 3.5 might be best to work some sums out with given the mods. Only just run in as well!

Agree 4.5k is optimistic but the right enthusiast with an understanding of the car history and driver might just be prepared to go that high.

I am surprised how the l&k holds value when I periodically look on Autotrader, at least in terms of starting price.

Adam

The mods might add a tiny bit if value to an enthusiast but it wont be much.

Be realistic imo and use the value of a standard car to do your sums with
