Petrol vrs dual mass flywheel failed

Featured Replies

Hi peeps, after a bit of advice if poss...

Went to pull away the other day and couldn't engage gear, clutch pedal stayed down when I took my foot off. Hoped it was just a hydrolic problem but after getting car to a garage it's been confirmed the clutch and dmf is knacked :(

The car is a 2006 tfsi with 68k on the clock and is standard form other than a stage one remap at about 240bhp that's been on there for the past 4 months.

It also tow's our family caravan which I'm sure doesn't help even though I try to drive smoothly and sympathetically when towing.

The mechanic has recommended I convert to a solid mass flywheel. I'm a little worried about this and can't find anyone that has done this with a petrol mk2 vrs??

Will this give the awful idle noise and chatter or will it be silent as a dmf on a 'petrol'?

Would it still drive as smoothly ?

The mechanic has advised this would suit the car and handle towing better than the dmf. It's also obviously cheaper than replacing with dmf. I have found seen sach dmf kits on eBay for around £450 though so it's not that much cheaper, been advised the smf would be around £300

Any advice greatly appreciated as I need to let the mechanic know my desision soon as I can.

Many thank
