Octavia 3 and Skoda bashing

Skoda is the thinking mans VW; you're getting 95% VW for about 70% of the cost.

I'd have preferred a Golf GTD but any level headed individual parting with their own money would pay 20k for a bigger generally better equipped clone than 28k for more or less the same thing with a bit more percieved build quality polish.

.....theres also the fact that tons of people at my work drive company Golf GTD 5 doors and I'm the only one with a white Blackline DSG estate....whos the fool really?!

I get this from the ill informed people amongst us. When I first started here I took an Octavia back to get used to it, pulled up and my neighbour immediately laughed and said "you're driving a Skoda,

Also my last two Golfs both had silly initial warranty issues and 5 months 5k on no issues with the Octy.

guys I have a 10 year old 250k Octavia and I work with 2 guys who have a 59 plate Merc with 22k and a 59 plate Mondeo with 19k on the clock. I am pleased to anounce my car goes to the garage once a year for an MOT and mayb ethe tyres every now and then. Their cars are constantly at the Stealers. They try to take the michael, but I remind them of this fact and they shut up. I also point out the reason I have this specific car is that it runs on 100% WVO at 60p a litre... To which they reply they wish they had one. So dont listen....

Sounds like you need new friends. My cousins little girl who is 3 loves my vRS. Never been in it but thinks it's pretty. That'll do me

My sister likes to joke about me having Skodas, "Here comes Skodaman" things like that! She drives a BMW MIni Cooper S, nice car, but not for me!! I like Octavias!!

Now enjoying my 4th Octavia, I've had a 99 plate mk1 brand new, a 3yr old 06 plate mk2 Vrs estate 2.0Tfsi, a brand new 12 plate mk2 fl diesel dsg, & now my awesome mk3!!

But why ARE you obsessed with your Skoda?

Thank you everyone, I know I shouldn't take it personally but it's a constant thing, it's not said in a down the pub banter way it's said more in a direct insult kind of way. I know it should be water off a ducks back but after 5 years of it you get a bit tired. It's like when you get called four eyes in school because you wear glasses from years 7-11, by year 11 you think to yourself "seriously!?"

Why am I obsessed with my Skoda? That's a good question. The first Skoda I was ever in was a Skoda Fabia 2004 plate, it was hands down in my mind the best car I had ever been in at that time. It was quick, it was really comfortable and it didn't worry about being something else it was content in being itself and it was a really lovely comfortable car. He also had a Felicia that he sold me, I had that for about 3 years, now the Fabia that I've had for almost 2 years and the next sensible logical leap was the Octavia.

The reason I love Skoda, because they are Skoda, they don't need to sell me a car with fancy adverts, as my example from my friend's car states, the car sells itself.

(Oh and they're cheap and 10 times better than the cars in the same class but no one else realises, I always have a smug look on my face).

I find it surprising people still have this attitude. I have owned Audi and several Alfa's and to be honest if Alfa had a decent family sized saloon I would probably buy this as replacement for my Alfa 159 but they don't. I have always fancied a Skoda as I like to be a little less mainstream so am looking forward to my new Octavia. I see the Skoda marque as being quite cool to be honest but since telling colleagues about my new arrival ( on lease) I have had plenty of taxi jokes ep as I am going or white!

I unashamedly search out the best value for money in everything. I wanted to at least match the comfort and quality of my Qashqai+2 1.5dCi Tekna and save at least £200pm on my car running costs (its a company lease car). Contenders were Mondeo, i40 Tourer, Kia Sportwagon, Focus Estate, Astra Estate and new Octy. Went through everything in detail and the Octy won by a mile, saving me nearly £3000pa in costs with more space, power, better economy and the same level of comfort / quality. One of my colleagues has ordered one as well (she had a BMW 3 series). The facts speak for themselves, and my advice is to ask questions to detractors about their cars, and the Octy wins every time. Badge snobbery is just an advertisers dream to rip off the poor fools who fall for it. Just smile, and as long as they carry on, we will continue to get our fantastic motors for a great price, with more cash to spend on other things.

I too love Skodas it took me years to break down my wife's predudice before buying the Felicia pacific lol ! Since then she has grown to love the quality and value of Skoda. I don't care one jot what friends and colleagues think I just laugh at what they throw their money away on !

I got my mum a Mazda 3 1.6 TD TS2.

I really like it, build is good, LOTS of kit, cracking engine, looks nice and handles well. I had a Mazda 6 2.2 TD yesterday that was nice but somehow lacking.

Still rather have my Octavia.

I test drove the new Mazda 6 2.2TD and a pre-reg Mondeo 2.2TDCI Titanium X Sport, very nearly bought the Mondeo, but then I sat in the Octy III and got a cracking deal, the rest is history....

Still waiting for Hortons to get back to me! I emailed Oliver and he said he'd ensure it was rectified without my lovely ivory interior being messed up !!

Don't get worked up about it.

Those that know cars, know the truth, and you are part of this knowledgeable group.

I've owned many differant makes of cars over the years, but only 2 manufacturers appear more than once in that list.

Skoda and TVR.

My Octy & my Chimaera are / were my favourites of all the cars I've had. And they both draw / drew the predictable negative comments.

More fool them I say!

To be quite frank, why do you give a **** what other people think?!?!

I couldn't care less whether anyone laughs, s******s, sneers or mocks me for driving a Skoda (and I had someone do that just the other week, which I laughed off).

I know why I bought it and I love it.

If ignorant people want to take the ****, let them; it's all down to personal choice.

As long as you are happy and love Skoda's, that should be enough surely?

I guess that if you removed the "s", then that could have something to do with it...

There was a review of the new Octavia in the telegraph last week which said it was getting too expensive and then said it was better than 3 other cars which were priced at 4-5k more???

I can relate to what you are saying, but the last idiot hasnt been born yet, and there will be ignorant people all over the world. Here in Denmark everything "turned" with the release o the Superb. After that most people can see that a skoda is just as good and in some cases better than a lot of other cars. But there will always be that 5-8% "knowitalls" That thinks "mazda" (Rustbuckets) are better (and more boring to drive) So i say.... Let them live in the past...

Here people tell me Honda is the best car... What is it with people. Can't I just be in love with Octavia3?

I'm more than happy for the 'bashers' to carry on with their ill informed comments as it helps keep the cost down for us while they pay more for their inferior heaps of carp. As my t shirt says keep calm drive a SkodaLOL

I totally agree! To me "Simply Clever" says it all... When you think about those two words they summarize the brand very well! :)

I have been "on the other side of the fence" before I bought my first Octavia in 2009. In those ignorent days my reply to my gf when she in 2007 suggested "why not buy a

Skoda Octavia?" (when we planned to sell our Volvo 440) was: "A Skoda? No way!" (Yes I admit, I was ignorent!! ) So we went for a used Volvo S60 instead, which eventually after

two years caused us some trouble... In 2009 the local Skoda dealer had a campaign on last years models and it was a price tag I coudln't resist, so I was finally prepared to

try this brand. Am I lucky today that I did...? Yes I am! ;)

It IS annoying when people can't understand (or don't want to understand!) what a really nice car it has become!! Even more so now compared to the 2008 model I bought.

It is annoying when people are stuck in the past (even if I should understand this partly since I once was...) and it doesn't help much to think: "they don't know what they are talking about!"

When you get the same stupid arguments against the brand over and over again...

"Value for money" is too often abused when it comes to cars, but I would say that Skoda is one of very few brands where is actually applies without being a ridiculous empty phrase...

So, that is how I have started to look a it when they "smirk"... I smile to myself when I pass those more expensive brands having a price tag that doesn't reflect the "actual" value.

Yes, perhaps they are a little bit more quiet when driving; yes perhaps they have a little bit softer suspension (if that is what you want); and yes perhaps they are put together a little bit

tighter... But to my opinion the key word is "a little bit" and none of those arguments would make me buy a car with a ridiculous price tag (which some of them have if you ask me... ;))

just to "show off" to the neighbour based on prejudices...

Well, just my simple view on it... Can't hardly control myself waiting for my new Octavia... I wish I had it NOW! :sun:

Meanwhile, I watch these clips

and smile to myself... even if they make me long for the car even more...

I had my car professionally detailed today. The detailer started by saying "I'd never buy a Skoda, why didn't you buy a Golf? After an hour " this paintwork is really good, better than a lot of more expensive cars" then " doors shut just like a Golf" finally "I have t.o say I'm very impressed the quality of this car is very good" ....but I still wouldn't buy one...... Last week he detailed Jay K's Birdcage Maserati (a £2 million classic car) yesterday a Bentley. I did say I lay odds you won't tell Jay K you detailed a Skoda!
