Octy L&K TDI

Featured Replies

With the earbashing most of us Furby vRS owners seem to be getting - and with the possibility of it becoming the future Saxo VTR/S, the thought of an Octy Elegance or L&K TDI 130 was appealling (apart from when it comes to parking in my street).

Turns out there's a rather nice L&K at my local dealer. 54 plate, Admiral Blue with beige leather/alcantara, 19k miles ex demo, fully kitted, even looked like it had satnav.

Only downer was that it was a 110. If it had been a 130 I'd have definitely taken it for a spin.

Now I'm home, I'm wondering whether I should have tried it anyway. I guess the missing 20PS and "only" 173? lbft torque would be felt in a car that size especially coming from a Furby vRS?

The other problem is that at my height, would I be able to see out of the screen and the back window? :D At least it had parking sensors!

I don't really see the point of going for the one you mentioned (54 plate) from your Fabia , unless you need the boot space. However the Jabba'd 110 L&K on here is putting out around 160 bhp and all the torque you want so that would be OK wouldn't it ?

Certainly don't need the boot space.

A Jabba'd 110 sounds good though ;)

Ours Jabbad is 164 bhp, Returns over 50 mpg average & maxes out at an indicated 135mph. Will consistently beat 180 bhp Audi TT's (the one with the single exhaust).

We recently drove back across France with 5 in the car + all our luggage & a few cases of wine !!

The read out at Calais gave a 760 Mile trip, average speed 84 mph with 39.6 mpg. Basically we had 2 fuel/food stops & ran at a constant 110 mph wherever possible, thats the speed it could run steadily without you having your foot flat to the floor

Hmmmm, food for thought. Only thing being I wouldn't want to mod a car still in warranty and the one I've seen is a 54 plate :(

19K is quite a high mileage on a 10 month old car - and being a demonstrator it may not have been treated with TLC by those driving it. On the other hand it is a nice car and spec, although the dealer doesn't mention SatNav being fitted - nor xenons which I believe are standard on the L&K.

Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI Laurin & Klement 5-Dr Hatchback finished in Admiral Blue Metallic with beige leather/alcantara interior. Specification includes anti-lock brakes, driver/passenger seat height adjustment, driver, passenger and front side air bags, 16in alloy wheels, remote central Door locking, climate control, compact disc player, computer, cruise control, electric/heated Door mirrors, front armrest, front/rear electric windows, immobiliser, front fog lights, front/rear head restraints, headlamp adjustment, driver/passenger heated seats, rake/reach adjustable steering column/wheel, parking sensors, power-assisted steering, radio/cassette/cd autochanger, rear wash wipe, rev counter, split rear seat, electric sunroof, traction control and trip computer. Ex-demonstrator.

I used to love driving an Octavia Elegance TDI when i worked at skoda. I often think the old style power delivery is a lot more refined than the PD stuff - and the 110 can hold it's own performance wise. Go and drive it, i think you may be supprised with how nice and refined they are !

Perhaps I should.... It's just the parking (nightmare here once all the commuters return of an evening) - that's what made me stay with a small car. Hmmm!

Dont know where you are located but if you fancy a spin in a Jabbad one & can get to Winchester your more than welcome

He's in Maidstone IIRC Stuart

You would find the 110 a bit of a step down from the vRS. The 110 when standard performs about the same as a PD100 Fabia.

The power delivery of the PD's and TDi's is also different, you dont get the nothing then big surge of torque in the TDi it's more of a linear power delivery.

If you want the performance back but want to keep the warranty then a good adjustable tuning box will give around 140bhp and 200lbft from the 110.

The old Octavia Elegance and L&K are also very soft and roll about quite a lot so don't expect a sporty drive.

As for parking, the Octy isn't bad as it's not all that long. It has a massive boot but is tight for rear leg room, it's no where near as long as something like a Mondeo.

Cheers

I don't mind a not-too-sporty drive - that's why I found the vRS nicer than the Ibiza ;)

As for parking, well sometimes the Fabia gets itself into a space only a few inches longer than the car. My neighbour has commented how small a space it manages to get itself into....

Well, I think a call to the dealer might be needed. Although I really do love the Fab vRS

Thanks Stuart - if this goes ahead, which I'm thinking is kinda unlikely, I'll bear in mind

Sorry slightly off topic, the above sounds fun any more details?

It's quite near ... a mere 20cm ;)

Chris

It's quite near ... a mere 20cm ;)

Chris

It's actually 22cm ;):)

Which makes a massive difference to how hard it is to park.

Why?

Octavia fits in the garage, Mondeo doesn't. ;):D
