How much phone data do you use?

Featured Replies

Thinking about going back to a contract after years on PAYG mainly for data and because my current phone is on its last legs.

Lots of deals around from 100Mb to unlimited.

I think I would use the phone for streaming video for the wee man in the car and as a sat nav.

We've unlimited bb at home but I'm unsure how much I would actually use on a mobile, no point in paying for unlimited if I'll not use much.

I probably only want to spend £20-25 a month and it would only get use out on the road since we have no 3G near the house.

Any suggestions for a phone too.

No Apple

Would like SD card slot if poss.

I use just over 500mb a month, didn't matter if I went over as o2 just slowed the speed down and don't charge. I've just got a 2gb contact which I doubt I'd go near lol

O2 refresh seems a good deal, basically you buy your phone interest free and you add your contract on top, I'm paying £20 a month for my s4 and £17 for my airtime which is unlimited calls and texts and 2gb data. If I want another phone i just need to pay the balance I owe on the s4

^^^^^ +1. Same contract as me, mobile data is always on so I can get emails etc all the time and it's hardly made a dent in the usage.

Good contract in my eyes on Refresh

I do about 800MB a month, thats quite heavy use for this site, mail, arsebook, and the odd boobtube vid. I also use dropbox for work stuff quite a bit, although

Anything I know thats going to chew up data I do at home.

I prefer to buy my phone outright and get a SIM only tariff -works out cheaper for me. Asda are currently selling Samsung Galaxy S3 for £319 -you can get a decent SIM only tariff for under £10 -I pay £9 for 700 mins 1000 texts and 750mb of data.

I have had my S3 for over a year now and it's been a very good handset -it's still competitive although not quite leading edge these days but I've no plans to change it as it serves my needs just fine

Three do plenty of affordable all you can eat data contracts with loads of minutes and text too.

Posted this before but i'll post it again.

Mucho grassyarse chaps

I work away from home for 2 weeks of every month and rely on my phone for all internet browsing. Most months I come up between 2 - 3 gig. Whilst at home during the other 2 weeks I turn the mobile data off and connect to my home WiFi.

I'd recommend a Samsung Galaxy if you can get one.

Make sure it's not the galaxy 'ace' cause they're not! I have one can't wait to get rid as it's rather sloooooow. I fancy the new s4 if I can get one on a decent contract, failing that probs the s3. I don't 'eat' much data as most of my mobile silver surfing is done via my home BB so I'm looking for as little minutes/text/data as I can as I have no mates :giggle:

SWMBO has an Ace and she likes it but she's really just using it as a phone.

I'd probably like something a bit better than the Ace. I'm actually drifting to the Nokia 820 since it has a removable battery and an SD card slot but the Windows store might be a bit of a PITA.

S4 is more than I'd pay on a contract. The phone is just a tool for me not a 'lifestyle device'.

She'd loads! Well over 5gb I think!

Way less than a GB. Virgin at the time didn't have any way of letting me see what I'd used accurately. Downloaded and app and I didn't use more than 200mb and that was with constant Twitter and Facebook use at the time. Now I hardly use it. Most of time time I'm in work where the phone can use the WiFi. In the house I have a Nexus 7 which is WiFi only but shows I download 40GB a month.

Shed loads too; I use my phone as a tether for my iPad and wife's laptop. I'm with T-Mobile at £27 pcm for unlimited text, unlimited downloads (both without fair usage limits), and 2000 mins. I had an iPhone 4s thrown in for free on a 2 year contract.

About 800mb. But most locations I go to have wifi - home and work! So it could be more depending on your wifi availability and usage.

1gb for most people is ample!

The S3 has a removable battery and an SD slot -it's pretty similar to the S4 really although not as powerful obviously

I get 500mb a month, used 8mb since 2nd. Wireless at home and work.

I have an SIII with AVG on it. AVG will report how much data you've used over the billing period (which you can set). You can also set a warning threshold too and a stop threshold for the data. The usage is easily accessed from the drop-down curtain, and can be set to report "how much has been used" every x minutes. Quite a handy tool for free.

Oh, and it does anti-virus too! ;)

You can set limiters on the S3 anyway.

As far as phone virus's go. Has anyone actually met anyone who has got a virus on their phone ??

I've got a monthly 3GB plan. I use around 80-90% of it. That said, I use my phone both as a hotspot for my notebook and with the portable docking station.

Yes, but AVG makes them, and the monitoring easily accessible. The SIII setup keeps them buried a few levels down. AVG is just a swipe down on the home screen. :)

About 6-800mb.

If you can buy a handset, there are plenty of 30 day sim only deals with 1gb for around £10-15. Tesco and Tmobile both have such deals.

Add a £200 s3 mini sim free, and you'd have a better deal per month than most contracts around.

Off topic but, I was at a security conference last week and mobile malware (rogue apps rather than viruses) is big business now and it's 90% android.

Back on topic it looks like 1-2Gb should be more than adequate. I've wifi at home and some access at work.

Last month i used 3gb, 2.5g the month before.

my advice: Keep an eye on hotukdeals - and if you have the capital, seriously think about getting a sim only plan and buying a phone separate.

Personally i moved to three off the back of a post on HUKD - unlimited net, 5000 txts, 600 mins for 15quid a month... 12m contract.. Plus £100 cashback so the contract was basically £6 a month.

My phone was purchased separately..

Also who provides your broadband... eg BT give you free hotspot access (although in my experience its easier/quicker to carry on using mobile data instead)
