Spare Tyre not included

Featured Replies

Hi, I have a new shape Octavia Elegance Estate on order (Currently got the 2010 version). I am looking forward to it but have now realised there is no spare wheel.

Bit nervous about going to France with no spare, has anyone used the inflation can thingy they give you and did it work?

The Skoda brochure quotes £75 rrp for a 17" saver wheel but the dealer is quoting me £150 saying thats as cheap as he can get it.

Probably would pay £75 but £150 seems a bit steep on a £25k car to me!

Don't know what to do, can anyone point me in the right direction, i.e don't bother with spare or definitely get one and at at what price?

Thanks folks.

Maybe phone Skoda directly and ask them why the brochure says one price where-as the dealer's quoting you double?

Perhaps because the £75 is at time of ordering and afterwards the dealer is charging 100% mark up ????

Is it still possible to change the specification on your car or is it already scheduled for production? If it is not that advanced yet surely you should be able to change the spec by adding the spare wheel at factory price. If not maybe a dealer could order it for a stock car and then swop it across?

I have to put up with the no spare wheel option on my sports car, and don't like it at all, - in my case where would you put a 295/30 VR 19" wheel in the car, so no practical alternative - and I know the standard remedy in the event of a puncture is to call out the assistance and have the car taken to a garage for a replacement tyre or repair. Not ideal, and would always prefer having a proper spare wheel. The sealant may or may not work, if the puncture is in the side wall or is anything worse than a nail it defintely won't, and once used the tyre is scrap anyway - and you then have to buy another container of sealant as well as a new tyre.

I remember having this conversation with my dealer (by email, which I cannot find now) and it was more expensive for dealer fit, I think because they have to supply the fixing in the boot well, and presumably some labour to do it. I ordered mine in the end.

If wheel sizes are the same from your 2010 model and you have a spare for it, just swop the wheel and 'gunk' over

when you pick car up. Thats what I did when changing 2010 model to blackline

If anybody is near Borehamwood in Herts, they can but the one I have from my old OctyII.

Need to know today so that I can take it out and replace it with Gunk!!

Ask the dealer to spec the next one they order for someone who doesn't want a spare with one, then when it comes swap your gunk and £75 the spare simples!

Call me cynical but how do we know the dealer hasn't done that and still charged £150?

So I think the general impression is that I should get the spare wheel.

But I have just realised the chrome window surrounds on the pictures in the brochure are not included either and it looks so much better with them. Have already specced Zenons and Electric seats so where do you draw the line cos its a £25k already.

Only paid £18k for the Octy 2 Elegance estate, thought about using the spare out of that but its 16" and the new car has 17" wheels. Could you get away with that to get off the m/way at 50mph max?

I don't understand this, I ordered the spare wheel, factory option, but the dealer said they do not come direct from the factory and the dealers have to order them in as an accessory, so the price difference makes no sense! Also, as they were waiting for stock, they took one from the showroom model and transferred it to my car!

No. You'll be limited with anything but a matching spare. The one you get with the Octavia III is also a 16, so just keep the kit from your current one.

I would also never have a car without a spare.

I have a friend who owns a tyre & exhaust business and he recommends a spare tyre everytime  as the gunge is so unreliable in certain circumstances.

That's the standard setup. 16 inch spare with 17 inch alloys. Sticker saying 50mph max.
