Fabia blowing pipes off!

Featured Replies

Any one help...

My car blew the intercooler other day when in boost then when I had the intercooler replaced it is now starting to blow the pipes off the intercooler,

Is it possible it's over boosting maybe? And why would this be? I don't think my car is mapped but I'm not sure until I get diagnostics on it which is sadly not until next Tuesday :(

Can anyone help?

Cheers!

More likely the lugs on the pipes are worn enough to allow the pipes to pop off easier.

This is the reason mine blew off on Tuesday, apparently a very common problem.

It is!

Scared me to death in rush hour traffic!!

extremely common problem by the looks of the forum. you need to either replace entire piping system or replace pipe. mine was £100 from the dealers but the car runs abbit better now.

a..... bit...

this happened to me a couple of weeks back, ended up on my birthday shelling out £90 for 2 clips and the 90 degree bend, fitted it and its now sorted. bought mine from TPS £84 plus vat and clips were 80 odd pence plus vat.

I've put heatshrink around all my pipe joints now....worked like a charm :)

What about some good solid metal jubilee clips? The thing is tho one of te pie parts that come apart was new? And it's only just started blowing them all off now after I had intercooler replaced! They won't hold up at all?

Probably what's happened is that the intercooler has been leaking for a while and now that it has been replaced there is more pressure in the piping coupled with the fact that the joints have been disturbed.

Check the lugs and clips.

If the lugs on the pipes look ok you may get away with some new rubber seals and clips (only cost pence each).

If the lugs are worn you either need new pipes or 'bodge' them with self tapping screws or big jubilee clips fromt he clips to stop them opening up.

Cheers! I think I will shove some huge jubilee clips on them! I'm hoping to sell it I'm after a new car this month so want this one sorted and gone!

Right need help urgent!

Just had the ecu software read and its running a unknown remap and it's running at 1.75 on the boost rather then the 1.3 or whatever it usually runs at... Will this be why the pipes are getting blew off with the new intercooler?

Should I get it remapped back to standard for £180 tonight at 5 pm or should I get a upgraded boost pipe kit,.. (Dont know what they cost) and sell it like that?

Whatever happens I'm selling it but I'm just bothered if the standard remap doesn't stop the pipes blowing off then I'm gonna have to fork out more money and replace the pipes! (Or self tap the **** out of them and heat shrink them!

Someone advise me! /(

You don't need to self tap them. I the pipes are on good condition as well as the clips and heat shrunk, they won't pop off.....mine don't on a remap anyway

I have never heard of the actual intercooler blowing before.  Was that verified by yourself?  Pipe's blowing off, yes, but never the physical cooler.

The intercooler had a hole it it and popped and when I got a new one on the pipes started blowing off! Was confirmed by myself and local garage

Mine broke the intercooler when the pipe lug sheared off, it's probably a similar problem here.

Worn lugs.

Also, don't pay to have it removed. Just do the self tapper screw fix on it of your selling it. Surely.

Yes that's what I thought myself! Should I just self tapper the **** out of the pipes and sell it?

Yes, yes you should!
