Just had a mail from Capitol Skoda in Newport and looks like they're offering £4000 (plus £1000 deposit contribution if bought with finance) for the rest of the month on rapids in stock.

They've got some S and SE specs with either the 1.6tdi or the 1.2 TSI

For example there's two 1.2 TSI SE with 17" alloys and a spare wheel for £11325 knock an extra grand of that if you take out there finance.

Is it me or do these kind of offers make you think the rapids aren't selling well?

I wonder if they are the old spec versions or the figures are a bit wrong.

I can't see how they can knock over 30% off the price.

Well the taxi drivers will be down there in a heartbeat

Getting rid of old spec models cheap to allow room for the new spec cars with decent kit?

Its very similar to what can be knocked off a factory order (so current model) SEAT Toledo so Im wondering if these are the older model or the newer one using the VAT off deal until the end of the month?

Seems pretty good even if they are the old spec:

I've just worked it out. :)

It's because the RRP is a joke.

Over £17k for an SE with a spare wheel !!

My Elegance with a fair whack of optional extras was a lot cheaper than that !!

Why have such daft RRP, why not just have a sensible price with no huge discounts?

Particularly as BIK is based on list price.

Because people like a bargain, and they feel like they are doing brilliantly when they get £4k off a new car.

I totally agree it does company car drives no favours but I don't think that's their target market with the Rapid.

Problem is, it gives some dealers the oppertunity to earn well by only giving some not clued up customers £1,000 or £2,000 off.

Who then come trade in time or a visit here realise they've been shafted by a Skoda dealer.

That doesn't help Skoda going forward IMO.

If I paid for an SE with a small discount off RRP and then found out I could have had a well specced Elegance for the less money I'd be well cheesed off.

Ford have been doing this for years -very high rrp, huge discounts, unfortunately it seems to work.

I guess this is to shift some stock before the "mini facelift" ones start coming through.

They are good prices for new vehicles, especially if they are the later spec SEs with the foglights, rear electric windows and cruise control.

These ones are the new models with better spec, not the early lower spec ones dealers seem to have had sitting for a while. Most of them are still available and if you take the finance (remembering paying it off immediately doesnt incur a penalty) you save £5000 off list.

10k for a car of that size and spec is pretty damn good imo. :)

Pretty much how I got mine - although mine was pre fog lights. Still happy with the deal I got :)

Does yours have electric rear windows too? I know Ive read a post detailing the differences on here... and yes, even im now 'doing the sums' on this deal.....

The Rapid kind of grows on you doesn't it. :)

It does... and it doesnt. Tbh, my biggest mistake initially with the Rapid was taking it for a test drive straight after a new Octy 3. Im not a fan of the interior - and the lack of cabin width was highlighted when I dropped my ass into the Octavia first of all. Taken on its own merits its a good car, better looking than most competitors and with fantastic practicality for a family (including a boot big enough to upset cars in the next segment up). Plus its a Skoda which just appeals to me.

But these prices put it in a different light. A bit of a bargain to be honest. I paid less than 11k for my last car brand new (factory order) - retailed at £16,200 at the time and this is appealing in the same way... and its a far bigger car. Hmmm! Only caveat is that the deal needs to be done tomorrow according to Paul at Capitol Skoda.....

Nope, mine's manual rear windows, manual AC and no fogs. But I got it for my old Mk1 Fabia + £10k.

If you can get an SE with fogs, climate control and electric rear windows for the same cost I'd say that's a real bargain personally. I mean OK it's not exactly a show car, but as a day to day practical car it's excellent and I love the 1.2TSI engine.

I agree, comparing it directly to a very good car from the class above is not going to show it in a good light.

But it is IMO a good car judged on it's own merits, as long as you bare in mind it's a work tool or family car for a realistic price.

My Elegance was not THAT much more than a VAT free Fabia once you added a bit of spec to both.

For me that's a lot of car for the money.

The slightly lesser width of the Rapid suits me as I often have to drive down quite narrow roads with lots of parked cars so the Rapid is about as wide as I could go.

As far as the interior goes it seems a lot of improvements are coming to that with the mini-facelift shortly, but once that is done I doubt you will be able to get as good a bargain as this for a new car...

Anything's an improvement when you have to grope your passenger's knee whilst changing gear as in the Felster. :giggle:

Very interested in the Rapid but need an auto.... And it seems they don't like offering the 1.4tsi cheap!

Also Seat are doing 5years 0% on the Toledo which is basically the same car.

Hmmmmmm

But you won't save £5000 if you take that option although you'll still currently be able to get the £2500 deposit contribution from them. Also, youd have to go to a SEAT dealer for the servicing and warranty issues.... ! ;)

So Yeti_Man, what's the verdict? :)

Skoda is supposed to be ending the VAT free deals on some models on Sunday and next week it'll a more brand wide incentive I believe that's a lot simpler.

The current system is far too complicated with different offers per model with inclusions and exclusions for certain spec levels.

So I'd wait and see in case 0% finance becomes the next offer...

Its a no from me. Absolutely great offer but just didnt put ticks in all the places id have liked tbh ie if they'd have been up for a little more money as Elegance spec cars Id have been more interested as Id have the armrests and steering wheel controls ive become really used to on the car it would be replacing. The Candy White 1.2tsi that I was asking them about werent Greentecs (to get the £30 tax) and two different sales guys told me two different engine specs (86ps and 105ps) so it was still unclear and I never got the call back yesterday to clarify. I can totally appreciate that Im coming across quite pedantic given the fantastic offer price but these are the reasons I didnt bite. I have two enjoyable cars right now so Im in no rush to change. Hopefully someone on here managed to snap one up? :)
