Coilover fitting help

Featured Replies

Ok so i knew fitting the fronts from a Focus to the Felicia wouldn't be straight forward, but i'm a bit stumped.

I don't think there's a guide on here but know a few have fitted these coilovers.

What did you do/use to get it all to fit?

Help appreciated, don't really want to have to put it back together how it was...

I think there a few different coilovers about with different length threads on them, I know the escort ones have a long thread on them.... gonna have to get creative with that one tho...

Cheers for the reply. Unless someone can help me with a suggestion, i think i'll put it back together standard tomorrow and get some Focus top mounts...that should work...

I had to cut the nut in half when I first did it but looks like you may have to modify the suspension turret and make the focus mounts fit, shouldnt too hard i think the focus is 3 holes compared to the felicias 2

Yeah i'm going to order some Focus top mounts, i'll try and make some sort of hybrid so i don't have to drill the turret. If i have to i'll use the full Focus setup, which means i'll then probably have to go for a Focus strut bace and modify it to fit the felly too!

I would go for focus top mounts tbh, they are far better than the oem skoda ones.

The Felicia was SORN'd at the end of Dec, so i can finally try and make some progress on it, which brings me back to the Coilovers!

After my last visit to these i had a custom spring cup made up to try and help, this is how i got on.

Felicia Top Mount

No go, won't sit deep enough to seat on spring cup

Can't see the thread anyway!

Focus Top Mount

No go, which i was pretty relieved at as i'm not sure the suspension turret could have been redrilled to fit these anyway

Should be enough thread here...

What do we think, looks good to go with a half depth Nyloc nut to me...but then i am posting here for opinions :D

That looks like it would work, try it :)

Yeah seems legit tome.

Update in here.

I decided to have the uprights machined to accept the struts, as i wanted to make sure i could get them back out in the future if needs be.

So the upright clamps (inner dia) were machined from approx 44.5mm to 45.5mm (if i remember correctly)

To be honest if i were to do it again i would have them a bit tighter (0.8mm might have done it)

Also what do we think about this? Is this how low the focus coilovers go in the Felicia upright?

Could look at a solution if it's a problem, but i'm not too concerned :)

Any pitfalls i need to be aware of on the rears (mk2/3 golf)? As i hope to get them on and the car back on all four wheels sometime next week :)

That looks fine to me, mine look the same.

Only thing i found with the mk2/3 rear coilovers is that if you want to have the car low they will be very harsh, but if you dont go too low they will be fine.

Yah looks ok to me, I wish I'd machined mine out now rather than using brute force to press them in. The rear ones fit straight on no hassles at all.
