MOT advisory - brake pipes covered

Featured Replies

What does this mean?

Car passed MOT without issue (after brakes were cleaned to even out a balance issue) but this advisory appeared for both?

Does it mean, covered so they can't inspect, or covered by mud etc?

Testers aren't allowed to carry out dismantling to get better access to $component, so it's probably something like pipes running under a cable tray.

I would assume it means the pipes are covered so they can't inspect them. Dont think it really warrants an advisory as i'm sure it would be obvious anyhow.

Ask the MOT man, who better to ask about his advisory note !!

My indy put it through so I wasn't there.

Its because the brake pipes that run under the floor are covered by a plastic cover that runs the full length of the floor underside on the vrs,i removed & refitted mine last service to remove the muck & give the pipes a coat of grease.

This is the car's third MOT but the first time I've seen this.

Different tester?

The tester is just covering his back probably, if the pipes are behind a cover he isnt allowed to remove it to inspect them, so in the event one of the pipes fails and starts leaking over the next 12 months it has been noted on the MOT that he was not able to inspect them properly so there would be no comeback to the garage.

Different tester?

Totally different station this time.

No surprise that a 'standard MOT' is very different wherever it's done and by whomever.

Undertrays & engine covers fitted are prepared advisories that are picked from a list.  On some cars there are so many covers that the tester can hardly see anything, the Smart car is a good example.

You do have to cover your back, given VOSAs disciplinary system and peoples preference to blame someone other than themselves for the state of their car.

Suggest ask your INDY what is meant by the advisory note, if they can't explain, then take the car to the MOT station where the car was tested and ask them?

A lot of the Indies are covering their backs. I had one Indie tell me that my exhaust heatshield cover was loose. his year it fell down . Exhaust specialist told me he was "misinformed!" as it was Skoda principle to fit cars with double skinned boxes.
