Key Questions

Featured Replies

I would like to know how many types of keys are for the Skoda Fabia 2006, I have one (used) and the preview owner only had one key, this is a standar hey i does not have anything in special, I have seen others skoda Fabia Owners and they have different keys, there is one that is called flip key (very awesome, I would like one of those), there is another that has two buttons and then there is mine I will attach a picture of it.

Is it possible for me to purchase 2 aditional keys for my car?

What does FOB stand for?

Why my car only came with just one key?

Will I have to pay in order to program a second key?

Is it true that only my local Skoda dealer can make a copy of this key?

I tried to call them however they said that they do not have on stock of these keys, I know that these questions are very silly but please help me this is my first car and I would like to have a copy just in case. Some people recommended me to make a copy of the blade, however as far as I know this will only open my car it will not turn it on.

This is one of the keys that I´ve seen online

"Fob" is not an acronym as far as I know. Depending on who's using the term it could refer to either the black plastic part of a flip key (with or without built-in remote) or a small talisman attached to the key.

Since you have a working key, it should be possible to synchronise a new key to the immobiliser. Instructions are in the owner's manual, but since that's ~500 pages I don't blame you for not having read and memorised it.

A fob is "A small ornament attached to a chain

This has evolved into a Keyfob - "A key fob is a generally decorative and at times useful item many people often carry with their keys, on a ring or a chain, for ease of tactile identification, to provide a better grip, or to make a personal statement."

However enough English lessons on with car stuff

I have 2x 2004 Fabia VRSs both have the top end flip key

I bought both cars second hand and only got 1 flip key for the red car and 2 flip keys for the black car.

I believe that lesser models which came with remote central locking got non-flip remote keys (as i previously had with my 2002 Seat Ibiza)

I can but imagine that your car is either on the next step down and has no central locking?

so you only get an old school twisty key

Or it could be that you car started life with the remote one as the main key which got lost so the owner reverted to the spare non-remote key which is now all you have.

As you say you should be able to get a new key cut a matching blade and it will open the doors but will need to get the immobiliser chip is programmed to match to make sure that it will actually start the car.

This i believe is an expensive process which can only be done at a dealer.

what KenONeill mentions about being able to sync a new key to the immob if you have 1 working key is incorrect. You can sync a new remote using the manual methoud but the immob part of the key, AKA transponder has to be programmed diagnostically using the SKC(pin code)

Don't go to Skoda unless you like paying more than you should. There'll be somebody else that can do it cheaper & will come to you. I do car keys for a living & i'm usually about half the price of what dealers charge local customers. If I have to travel a bit further the price goes up but i can generally still beat dealers
