Anyone got a spare VRS o/s rear caliper?

Featured Replies

Mine has just started to stick and i am driving to Cornwal on Saturday, typical

Anyone near Portsmouth as can't drive car to far. Or willing to post PM me if needed.

I have some springs to fit to see if it is just rear brake cable not returning but as a lot of heat is being generated fear the caliper is culprit:

I've got both rears in the garage taking up space. Give me a pm.

I need one too.  But after coming a cropper buying used once already, I think I will get one of the £75 odd pattern parts ones new from Ebay.

Mine were binding bad mate.

Stripped down and put the anti moo kit on and really went to town on the sliders and pins and so far all are top notch.

Ive also fully stripped one of my spares and it looks like dirt n crud gets in around the handbrake rod.

Pita tho to get circlip back in to hold the handbrake mech in the calliper.

If you can ide get one of tge moo kits. Better than the helper spring. Shame you cant use both tho.

Mine failed today, handbrake not working on right hand side. Hopefully just stuck, will find out tomorrow.

Lube, lots of it

You've gotta keep the handbrake mechanism lubed up

Copper grease does it for me

Then inject grease down the handbrake cables

Oo mark also check the runners one of mine had got slightly rusty and seized. Pita to get it out the calliper.

Also dont use too much copper slip. I let it build up over time and last time used a bit on them n dont think that helped.

you can use both - a little bit of ingenuity either drilling a channel in the anti moo kit, or drill and tap hole and swap over the dampers

What the rear caliper really needs is some kind of splash guard/rubber boot (over the cable mech) to to protect it from all the crud that gets thrown at them

Well funny you say that Billy mate, The new caliper was due today, but did not arrive :wall:

So i bit the bullet and got car up in air and had a mess around. Checked n/s wheel with hand brake off and that spun freely, checked o/s rear wheel and that was well stiff. Just before I started stripping caliper down i noticed quite a gap between hand brake and the stop plate.

I forced cable backwards and handbrake came off??

So what i found is a restrictive rear cable. I changed these few years back. So next parts of list are a set of cables. Anyway I already have the anti moo kit fitted,  but that is only good for balancing the vibration frequency of the rear beam and brake pad combination. These rear brake set ups are crud as they do not have a return spring to keep cables and bracket hard back against the return stop so the cable weight and any resistance will cause brake calipers to drag. So much so on mine that the caliper was partially on all the time. The culprit still might be a mechanism in the rear of the caliper but don't think so. As what I did was fit the rear spring to my caliper(yes you can do both Billy) and no more dragging.  now probably have a spare caliper

can post pic later but got idea from here:

Yep I have done mine every time i have changed pads so the sliders are nice and loose and copper greased where needed. Even tried spraying WD40 down the handbrake cable lol

Yep they were checked and all good from last time..

Yep you can buddy as i did as per pics. No drilling needed simply pull over moo bracket and it is held by the rubber bush

It so does buddy. as open to elements and crud. I will be getting new set as the smoother those cables run the better the return to caliper stops is going to be

mine jsut failed MOT on rear brake problem.

O/S was dragging and only had 14% hand brake.

thought the worst, prepared to replace the caliper, got it on the ramp, Unhooked the cable and it went back ok...Gave it the 5 pump trick, tried it by hand and sprung back to the stop ok..... checked the cable and the sheiling was broken so the cable wasnt working propperly.

£10 later, 15min (with a bit of tea and talk) back on the floor and a green slip in my glovebox.

Lert me! Never asume the worst!

Just had a new rear caliper fitted, not green though :(, but has Audi badge on. (Think its a TT Quattro caliper).

Car passed MOT as of an hour ago. :)

The ones I removed from mine when I replaced it had the Audi badge on.  Hammerite time?
