Superb 2013 broken into through drivers window!

Featured Replies

Hey guys, don't own superb but a friends dad has a a 2013 tdi and some scum had broken into the car last night and got in from the outside getting in through the drivers window by removing the outside trim and window without any trouble and stole the the sat nav unit. But no luck to the scum as it looks like they damaged the sat nav in the process. They left the glass unbroken beside the car, how thoughtful. How the hell is this possible?!? Beware guys.

Gonna be real sad as the sat nav is coded to the car so it's now useless even in another Superb.

Interesting to know how they removed a window that would be jammed against the top of the door and the winder rail though.

If you owned a Superb II, you might actually know this is not correct.

Third-hand info is difficult to rely on. To remove the window from the outside is quite a feat, but I suppose it's not impossible. Seems to me that you'd need to remove the runner linings, trick the glass from the bottom arm, drop it below the runners then remove it, which would need the weatherstrip off too. I'd like to hear the owner's version of events.

Well I won't argue with you on this but I'm almost certain the unit has to be de-activated before removal from doner car or it won't work in another car simply because the two are linked together hence why if you lose the code you must call Skoda and prove ownership before they will release the code to you,

The official blurp isn't clear on it but it does mention the code being stored in the instrument cluster as well as the radio, I was led to believe the code is also stored in the ecu and this is why it won't work unless it chats to the correct ecu,

If you are correct I'm all ears as to the correct version of events.

That simply enables you to disconnect your own battery and reconnect without being prompted for a code. Once the satnav is removed it behaves like any other stereo and will ask for a code once reconnected in another car.

Sadly the columbus is the most stolen headunit on mainland europe, and it looks like thefts here are increasing as well. They still fetch good money, and the code is well shall we say easily read with the correct tools. Whilst the code may defer the casual thief it sounds like this was a pro, and may well have the required expensive tools and software.

No attack alarm?  This doesn't sound like a quick in-and-out job :wonder:

If you remove a Columbus from car 1 and want to put it in car 2 then you need a 4 digit code.

If you take it out of car 1 and put it back in car 1 then you don't need a code.

I've had my Columbus out a few times and never needed a code when putting it back in.

Back to the glass issue. I am sure somebody who is familiar with doing this sort of thing could remove the glass in around 1 minute. These criminals get clever over time.

God sake, some people ehh? That is me feeling a bit worried now as my superb is a taxi (ph) and anyone from the back will see the plate, window sticker, bumper stamp and radio arial, and i try my best to hide the money inside the car, I keep my pound and 2 pound coins in the ashtray, my silver in a tub below the handbrake, and my coppers in the cup holders, I hide everything at night when I go into the house and make sure the sat nav (Garmin) is away from prying eyes, and yesterday was the 1st time my superbs alarm went off yesterday, parked out side a shop and went in, my son was with me but he stayed in the car and I as usual take the keys out the car with me and locked it, he got the fright of his life when it went off
