Suzuki Swift.......anyone ...?

Featured Replies

Asked Suzuki on Twitter and will only come with a 1.2 in 4wd, sound like a rival to the Fiat Panda. Sport 5dr is coming though. Japan have had those for ages

Yes, initially but theres talk of something higher powered and as Suzuki are selling it for the purposes of ' better handling' rather than 'grip in bad conditions' I think theres a good chance it could be fun. :)

BRISUZUKI.net?

And the saloon version of the Swift, badged as a Maruthi, is currently the biggest selling car in India.  Can't get a better recommendation than that!

A fellow driver trainer recently swapped his special edition vRS Fabia for a Swift Sport, he's well pleased with it.  He already had a Swift auto.

Loads of info on swifts over on Swiftowners, my wife has had one since 2007 and won't get rid of it because she loves it so much lol, pretty much bullet proof over our 6 years of ownership except for wear and tear items, the new ones are going down well too and seem much better built than the last ones, they are however much more expensive too, great fun car, reliable and cheap.

I've found they carry speed very well through corners. I've said before that if it had 180bhp like my vRS I wouldn't see which way it went

you want to see the one i supercharged for a friend, it attends every japfest and shows a lot of big bhp cars up with only around 200 ponys of its own, a real hoot to drive

I've driven the new 6 speed swift sport briefly on the road and it's very nice.

Also driven the old 5 speed swift for 24 laps of the ring and its a hoot!

Bomb proof engines ( unless you change from 5th to 1st at 115mph ) with go kart hadling. You just keep your foot in when aproaching corners so good is the handling.

I had a hoot overtaking all sorts of exotica on one particular visit in the wet even on 888's.

Have a look at this one enoying a lap.

Reminds me of my Gran Turismo laps. I added slicks to one and almost every corner was flat in 4th or 5th.

I like the look of the 5 door Swift Sport, and it gives that extra choice.

I hope there will be more selections of engines that will be available with the 4x4 system in the future,

& an Automatic would be handy.

(as it is with 1.2, 93bhp manual & 4x4,

there might be some looking at that rather than a Fabia Monte Carlo.

Suzuki VAT Free offer on the 4x4 has it at £11,516 instead of the normal price of around £14,400)

The other half has a 2005 '55' Suzuki Swift 1.5 VVTS GLX Sport (Did they want to put anymore letters on the end of it!) and its a great little car.
Ran nice and healthy on the dyno at 107bhp and 103 ft/lb torque - and that with it knocking on the door of 100k. We use it mainly as our commuting car as we both work in the same office as the VRS is barely warmed up at the end of the 8 mile drive whereas the Swift is warmed up by the end of the road pretty much!

I think it was some sort of special edition as it has uprated suzuki wheels on, keyless entry and start, air-con, boot spoiler, fogs and factory fitted stripe kit (was on its original reciept!)

Loves to be rev'ed but due to it being part of the base range (i.e. not a sport) the handling needs to be tightened up a bit - planning on putting a set of Eibachs on it in the near future.

Nearly went to look at one (Sport) last weekend but then I saw it only had a tyre repair kit.

Anyway, pretty much decided to extend the warranty on the Fabia - if I can find a dealer that'll arrange it....Otherwise it may be cheerio.

Would you go back to a manual after the DSG?

No extended warranty on mine Brian.

Out of Warranty at the end of the month, 22,000 miles and runs better than a new one.

Must be good for another 22.000 miles, and its a keeper.

(I doubt you will get anything like £8000 as an offer Trading In, you can buy good 3 year olds for under that easily.

Next Reg change and out of warranty, then who knows what they will offer on a 10 plate Twincharger)

If you have had an offer, please tell what it was.

That twin exhaust on the Swift Sport just looks stupid IMHO.

More understated would be good, again just IMO.

I'd definitely miss the DSG - I do mainly urban driving and having an auto is a joy.

I haven't had an offer but webuyanycar offering £8k - I'd be cool with that but my gut preference is to keep the car. Corroding chrome alloys (lesson learned there...) apart it hasn't given me any bother (hate to tempt fate... :) ) . My only reason for contemplating the warranty is in case something happened to the gearbox - doubt very much it would but it's just peace of mind. I've still got a bit of time as warranty doesn't run out till 30 September.

The car has only done 17.5k and my annual mileage is almost certainly going to reduce to around 4,000 - it would seem daft to trade it in - if we part company I'll just live without a car (I live round the corner from a railway station and can be in Glasgow city centre in 15 minutes).

I like the Swift but it's a substantial drop in power, you need to rev the nuts off it (I know that's the appeal to a lot if drivers but I like power available low down) and I'd want a spare wheel (I spent four years in a Lupo GTi with only a tyre repair kit for company - I was bloody lucky as never had a puncture but wouldn't do it again).

Cheers

Brian

webuyanycar have come back with an improved offer but provided I can sort this warranty it's staying. I'd miss not having a car to knock about in at the weekend (which, apart from days off, is the only time I get to use it).

Depreciation isn't an issue for me - expect to get a large dundy cheque at some point in the next two years - money 'lost' on the car won't be much in the grand scheme of things.
