tow bar mounted bike rack reccommendations

Featured Replies

Just had a SWAN NECK tow bar fitted to my Yeti and wondered what racks are favoured by bicycle owning Yeti drivers. I want a quality platform type not one of those V racks from which bikes are suspended. Thanks in advance

Thanks Merlinman - I hear lots of good things about the Atera - might have to save up :-)

Thule do some too, so don't just forget about them. :)

Just bought my new Atera Strada Sport M2 (for 2 bikes with 3rd optional). I had the Atera Strada DL in mind but was quiet expensive for me so I went with the Sport instead which was at 335 Euros the best buy I could find here in Greece. In due time I will have my first travel with this so I will be able to give you some more info after say 20 days. For the record I am coming from an old (3 years old) Thule rear window fitting rack which while it looked steady it really wasnt after some time and had to make a patent for it to work and keep the bikes safely stable along the way. Not to mention other drivers safety as well of course which is way more important than 2 bikes broken (best case scenario)! I go camping once a year almost every year throughout Europe so something like the above can be considered dangerous (for my milage at least)

I use one of these http://www.bosal.com/AUTOMOTIVEPRODUCTS/Aftermarket/Bicyclecarriersfortowbars/tabid/4404/Default.aspx Bosal foldable racks for our two adult bikes on the back of our Octavia (can I say that in the Yeti section?). It has been to France and back with no problems, it tilts to allow access to the boot and it folds up into a suitcase size package when not in use. You could easily storre it in the car if you wanted too.

I have a Westfalia Portillo.  It folds small enough to go in the boot and carries two bikes.  Means you can get to your destination, take the bikes off, put the rack in the boot and go off.

If you want to see real people putting it on do a you Tube search.  Most of the videos are in German but all you need to see is there.

Thanks guys - you've come up brands I hadn't considered before. I'll try and see some of them in the flesh now.

Safe riding. Andy :-)

I'm toying with the idea of a Thule Easyfold 932 which has only recently come out. It looks like a clever design which allows the boot to be opened with the bikes still on the rack.

Has anyone bought one yet ? There's a good demo on YouTube
