Cambelt not replaced - any come back on dealer or Skoda UK?

Featured Replies

We had a positive approved used car experience.

Booked a test drive in the Octavia.

No pressure applied to us to buy etc.

Went away and did the sums then went back to agree a deal.

Dealer inspected/serviced the car, changed cambelt and water pump, touched up a few stone chips and scratches etc.

They have then since sorted out a couple of niggles on the car under warranty.

  • Approved used car means diddly squat. I bought an 'approved used' Octavia in Dec 2010, in oct of 2011 I arrived home from a weekend away to a letter from a legal firm in Leeds, the letter basically as

Same problem with my local vw  Skoda garage. I bought an approved used golf last year which has since had a service and no mention of cam belt. Mot time has come around and I get a call saying my cam belt is overdue for replacing. I ask when it should have been done, answer before they sold it to me. So when I bought it approved by vw it was in fact needing a cam belt replacement , when I had its minor service it was needed but not flagged up....... not convinced the myriad of checks that are done are of very much value if this isn’t one of them!!!

@Trufi

Welcome.

If you have a new car warranty but have not serviced a car to the Manufacturers Guidelines. (The do not say Schedule in the T&C's)  the Warranty Claim might be invalid.

If you buy a Skoda / VW / Audi / SEAT approved used car it has a Warranty, but that does not mean it is serviced to the Manufacturers Guidelines or Recommendations or schedules.

The car might be over 3 years old and no brake fluid changed, over 40,000 miles & no DSG service done, no Haldex Service done no air or fuel filter change and the original spark plugs.

Their rigorous workshop check by a factory trained technician or AN Other is a 'Safety Check' and a HPI is done and that is it really

There is no Servicing actually required, or bringing items overdue brought up to date.

If there was a Corrosion Warranty claim at some point that might be knocked back as no record of Body Inspections done yet the car has a FULL MAIN DEALER SERVICE HISTORY.  Just not serviced to the Manufacturers Guidelines or Recommendations or given the body inspections.
