Tow bar advice.

I've read the pinned tow bar topic which is excellent but can someone advise on a rough cost to get a detachable tow bar fitted, can a tow bar specialist make the necessary adjustments to the electric system after fitting or does a Skoda dealer need to do this?

What is the best make and finally I should add that my car doesn't have tow bar prep.

Would I have to replace the silver lower bumper section with one that had a hatch?

Cost? How long is a piece of string? A lot depends on the local market and the make of bar.

Adjustments? Some can (the better ones) but it depends on what equipment they have. Really you have to ask them. If they can't then it will be up to a dealer or someone with the VCDS system.

Bumper? The silver bit has the relevant section to be removed marked out in it, but you have to get the mounting kit from Skoda.

Reveived a price for a Westfalia detachable today 8pin, supplied and fitted for £354 plus the vat, this is using their electrics to the front, not skoda, it enables the screen and apparently shows tow bar and disables the parking sensors etc. I checked with the Skoda dealer and they confirmed this and recommended them as fitters. I would still need to buy the mounting kit, dealer was a bit unsure on this as to what exac tly was needed but reckoned around £18 plus vat, a special tool is also required at £108 ( the fitters said they borrow this from dealer, I hope so).

I have used the fitters before on my previous car and they were very good.

Does anyone know anything about this mounting kit, part numbers etc?

The Westphalia bar, which is the only one Skoda approve, fits in place of the bumper bar behind the bumper, and uses the same mountings.
I presume the kit is as above.

I think so, the person I spoke to seemed to know all about them, when he was checking prices he mentioned the system showed they had fitted just over 100 Yeti tow bars between their 2 branches. He explained about the coding and also the requirement for the special tool. Henrys Skoda mentioned there was issues early on with the coding but they 'have it nailed' as he put it now.

My fitters also explained there had been some early coding issues on Yetis and Superbs but they were now sorted.

My rear bumper was cut very accurately by the fitter and the cover and frame fit perfectly. You can't see the cover unless unless you peer under the car.
