Chrome window surrounds

Featured Replies

We ordered our new Octavia 2.0 TDI elegance estate last Saturday 6/7/13. We wanted to have chrome window surrounds as they appear as an option in the brochure. We were told by the dealer that they are not available at all in the UK.

Can anyone else back this up? We were quite disappointed and have just had to have the chrome roof rails.

We were also given a vague estimate that it won't be built and delivered until September. I hate having to wait that long!

yeah that does seem to be the case< I haven't ordered mine yet but ive seen lots of talk about them not currently being available I was going to order them on my hatch

also Im guessing around September too.

I ordered mine last Thursday from Blade in Twigworth, was also told no Chrome surrounds to the windows and to expect delivery in September!

Yup correct, you cannot order them now and im sure they don't appear on the configurator at all anymore. Might have been a problem with the B pillars shown in an earlier thread, but not sure about that.

Ahh ta guys. Feel mildly better knowing that what I've been told is right. Would've looked even more gorgeous with the racing blue I've chosen. Never mind eh.

im going racing blue too

Got mine a week ago having been told that I would get them, but when it arrived, they weren't there.  There were briefly standard, at the time my order went in.  Dealer has committed to obtain and fit mine when / if they become available.

It's just SUK messing us around as far as I am aware! A few of us managed to add the chrome post initial order on the hatch when it was added by the factory as an option, and they were supposed to be standard on the estate, but then they (SUK) decided to omit from both hatch and combi. I have seen pics of non UK cars with the chrome more recently so don't think it is a supply issue, even some of the vRS pics have the chrome! The B Pillar issue was also on a few early non-chrome cars.

The problem with the Chrome is delevery. the factory cant get them. from 2014 it will be possible to buy them again.

Does anyone know if its something that can be retro fitted? Still confused why its only affecting UK orders.

My dealer says that they will tell me when they are available for them to order - then they will fit for me. But they have no idea when this will be.

I'm sure someone in an eu country posted it's a sourcing/supply issue that'll affect all markets

It does not affect the elegance models in Norway. At least not yet.. :) They all come with the chrome as standard, both the hatch and estate.

In the latest brochure on page 7 under heading Dynamic lines it states

"The window surround on all trim levels is black, chrome surround is currently unavailable".

They obviously knew this when they sent the brochure for print in May or early June.

The chrome is an EU wide problem. Skoda simply don't have enough to go around. So they have limited its availability for countries where it is an option so it can fit it in those countries where it is standard. I have been going through the same pantomime in Germany where chrome is also not standard like UK.

Here the problem was chrome was included in a package including the xenons. All of a sudden the package disappeared. You could buy the xenons of course but for eur 500 MORE than the package..... Now the chrome and the package is back for a limited time. I have ordered and delivery is ....wait for it.....wait for it ..... November. I gave up with ACC - still not available in Germany.

However, briskoda is excellent and it has kept my spirits up. I am not used to products being marketed which are not available.

Chrome window surroundings were also a problem in Croatia. They were never standard in any of the packages. At first this was available a short period of time, then it was not and now again is. I've ordered mine in mid May, and will be picking it up late August, beginning of September. Hopefully. And the reason is - chrome. One more thing. The price for chrome window surroundings here is 120 Euros. Roughly. My dealer told me that there is an option for an aftermarket fitting but the price is not 120 Euros, but 700 Euros because they have to change both smaller parts of rear windows. As in glass. And that sounds insane. This is for the hatch.

Regards.

Hence why I disbelieve dealers that are promising to do the upgrade FOC to customers who have had it confirmed there's will have chrome, and didn't upon arrival.

No, just for customers who haven't ordered it in the time when they were ordering their car. Like an aftermarket fit.

This thread is depressing me. I want chrome window surrounds!!!! she says stamping her feet! Hearing about people who are getting them is making me extremely envious, no not envious, jealous. There I said it.

I had this issue when I ordered my FL Octavia in 2010.

Spec had changed to remove the folding mirrors just a day or so prior to me placing my order, the sales man told me it was part of the package.  I only found out from Briskoda, dealer never mentioned it all until I brought it up when the car arrived.

It looks like I may have to wire my chrome up to the mains to stop it being pinched then   . Well, until skoda pull their finger out and get it back as an option anyway!!

Ha ha, I'm not THAT desperate that I'd travel all the way to Kent to nick 'em :-)

Really want to see if Skoda will re-introduce the option. It's still in the Irish brochure which is beyond frustrating. Is it true that they will be offered again in 2014?

And I see the sites are down again for essential maintenance! Ahh bugger.

The b*stards just want to tease us....this is what you could've won. Its in the UK brochure the dealer gave us - UK April 2013. Mind you, if what they mean is a chrome strip at the bottom edge of the window I'm not bothered. It's the one that goes all the way around the window I want.

Don't know why Skoda can't source better suppliers if the current one can't deliver. We're in a recession and there's demand for a product. Surely someone somewhere can come up with the goods?

Love the car, disappointed in Skoda though
