Featured Replies

HI. as the title says best polish/waxes for black magic, advice please. |One question tho its not the black magic im polishing/waxing its the clear coat on top so is a clear coat on a black car not the same as a clear coat on a light colored  car so basically the same method applies when polishing/waxing both ...if you see what i mean .

Poorboys black hole is great on most colours and especially good on black. I top it off with some Victoria Wax Concourse which is fantastic value for money. Looks amazing when clean.

Stays clean for about 10 minutes!

How do you apply it?

Last weekend I put some turtle wax stuff on, but it still looks pretty swirly :(

Talking of swirly, I used T-Cut on my bonnet the other day to get rid of some marks... now i have big grey patches almost like I used a scourer... any ideas what will fix that?

As per instructions on the box..................it's nowhere near perfect, but does a reasonable job

I think possibly my problem was it was just so hot, it was drying before it got a chance to properly soak in.

This is what I used. Comes with a free lipstick. Jen isn't so keen on using it for some reason...

That's different to mine - Black box is a 3-stage polish - takes a while, but it's worth it

In answer to your question,

95% of the end result is in the preparation stages. The only differences between different waxes/sealants is in water behaviour and durability.

There are thousands of possible product combinations but some easy to use ones are -

- Zaino AIO followed by zaino z2

- Autoglym super resin polish followed by Autoglym extra gloss protection

- Britemax AIO or autofinesse tripple followed by a wax of your choice - fk1000p, collinite 476s.

Happy cleaning :)

Polishing it properly. ;)

When it comes to clearcoat, there's not really anything special about it being black compared to any other colour.  You are polishing a colourless layer to bring out the basecoat underneath.  Therefore, a decent tough cutting polish on a good cutting pad, followed by a nice refining polish on a gentler pad, will work wonders.

I've been working on a Bentley Continental Flying Spur this week in the evenings, and I have been used Menzerna Fast Gloss polish for the donkey work (about the toughest polish you can buy before you get proper cutting compound for flatting new paint) and then using Autoglym super resin polish for refining the paintwork afterwards using my dual action polisher.  It worked very well indeed!  I sealed it all in with a thick coat of Collinte 476S.

cheers man.. autoglym SRP followed by autoglym EGP is what i use at the moment..

I have a black vrs and i use black hole or auto fineese rejuvenate followed by a coat of auto finnese passion. All hand applied and comes up lovely

Oh no! Not car plan products. Please don't use them they're rubbish and anything you can pick up gallons of for just £9.99!

I know this is pricey, but I had it put on mine and it cleaned it so beautifully! It polishes, fills and cleans so it is 3 products in 1 which you can apply by hand.

Wax

It's a kickass wax. Downside is it takes ages to buff off. Just go soft and take your time. 1 panel at a time!

If you use the Turtle Wax Black Box don't use the spray detailer that comes with it!

To put it polity its **** and will make all your hard work be wasted.

Best off throwing it straight in the bin.

The polish and wax do the job but don't expect miracles. It does a descent job of covering chips and scratches but if like me you know every chip and scratch on your car you will still see them.

Doesn't seem to last longer than a couple of washes either.

Gives a flat finish to the black paintwork aswell.

Still shines though but no pop.

There is no best wax for best colour its all in the prep, get it machined polished properly.

Wow! What a difference.

AGSRP is not a 'refining polish'

All it will do is fill any swirl you missed with the cutting polish and add a small amount of sealer to the paint

You say you are using Menz polish as the initial cut.....

IMO you should refine with Menz final finish too on a finishing pad. This will give a better final polish with no filled swirls

ChrisRs - SRP does have a small amount of cut - but only very small. It does as you state however work mainly as a filler.

I know. Yes...but the cut is so slight it acts more of a cleaner than a polish..

Using a product with Fillers is somewhat pointless if the original task of using polish is to remove swirls and scratches.

In short, I would only use SRP if I was filling scratches, never as finishing polish

What exactly is a `finishing polish`, Chris? And can you please suggest one?

Many thanks.

Mike.
