Love my Mk2 vRS

Featured Replies

I have been avidly following the vRS threads in the Mk3 forum and seriously considering changing.

Then I did 200 miles in my vRS FL petrol estate today....... I love it so much, I can't even get close to justifying the cost to change.

Why would I need to? I have pace, refinement, toys, and it has been mine since new so know where it has been.

As I sit here tonight, I'll probably run it for several years yet!

I'm a happy Skoda owner. And, as the Sunday Times said recently, I love being seen in a car with a certain 'post-cold war cool'!

Feel exactly the same. Why spend thousands on a FL or mk3 when I love the car and chucking a fraction of the amount it'd cost to change at it will get it absolutely perfect from a performance, usability etc point of view. This is going to be the first car I've ever had more than 3 years (if it makes it until October!).

I completely agree. Yes I like the look of the new vRS but I cannot justify to myself the cost of changing. My vRS is two years old and I have had it since new so like dunc69 I know where she has been, unlike my girlfriend.

For me it has all I need, all I want at present and I do look after it.

I've had the VRS 6 years. Although I regularly get an itch to change (normally when something breaks or it's road tax time) I've yet to find anything that has convinced me want to part with it.

**** poor trade in quotes don't help either I suppose :wonder:

I had my Mk1 vRS for 8 years and 100k miles.

Other than the normal servicing costs, all I replaced was a £12 sensor, and a £25 breather pipe

When I finally got rid, it was still on the original clutch, tyres needed replacing all around, needed new discs and pads all around, so thought it was time to get rid, although the engine never missed a beat, and hardly ever put oil in it.

My new vRS is a Mk2 2010, will be 3 years old in September, has done 27k miles and will no doubt last as long as the Mk1

Uses a little oil (1-2 litres between services)

Totally different car to the Mk1, more grown up, more refined, nicer Cabin etc

No doubt that the Mk3 will bump that up again (it'll probably be Mk4 by the time I change again...)

Both cars make/made me smile everytime I drive/drove them, if its not costing you money and it makes you smile, WHY CHANGE??

I've only had mine 9 months or so.....and as it's an 11 plate, I anticipate keeing it for a good while (got another 4 years to pay off the loan....) This is only my 6th car ever in 23 years of car ownership......I hate going  to look for cars, so when I get a good 'un, I keep it!!

OK, neither of my Octavias are VRS models, they are both Elegance spec, but relevant to this thread is that I have never kept a car anywhere longer than 12-15 months.

I bought my 54 plate at just under 4 years old, as a bereavement sale, and had to travel nearly 200 miles to collect it. I originally had said that I would have laughed at anyone daring to suggest I would get a Skoda, but 5 years later, that Skoda is still with us. When I bought the estate it got relegated to being SWMBO's car, as it was simply too good a car to part with. Neither Skoda we have now is likely to be changed for a considerable time yet -- we love them, and simply cannot justify spending out thousands of pounds to get anything near as good, reliable and enjoyable to own.

Firmly in the Skoda stable now, and extremely unlikely to move away.

I'm totally with Mike on this one.

Like Mike, I've got the 1.9 Elegance model which I bought two years and 30k miles ago due to a change in work circumstances. It's on a 56 plate and was a one owner example in pristine condition and still is as I'm a fussy buggah when it comes to looking after my cars.

I had come from the Honda / Mazda stable, so it was a leap of faith for me to buy the Octavia. And do you know what? I wish I had done it years ago!

The build quality is infinitely better than my wife's Honda Civic and I'm getting mid 50's mpg. It's a joy to drive, comfortable and more than quick enough for my needs and what's more, it doesn't owe me a thing. I don't have a car loan and I simply can't justify buying a newer car and taking on a loan.

She's on 75k miles now. I've got five more years to work and all being well, fully intend to keep her for the duration. Then I'll go mad and buy the Caterham 7 I've always promised myself! ;-)

Cheers

FP

Mine is going nowhere in the foreseeable provided it doesn't get hit or ill etc. Last car was a mk1 octy l&k and I kept it for 7 years before selling to a local lad who is keeping it well.

I understand some like a new car more regularly, but these cars are so good, I simply don't get the urge to change anymore and I prefer to add toys to the car I have, or to spend any spare money on holidays or the house. Not that kids leave that much of it!!!

A lot of common sense spoken on this thread - but it's about cars, when did common sense come into the equation?!

My current Octavia VRS does almost everything I need a car to do (if only I could get the damn radio reception fixed!). The new model will no doubt be a bit better to drive and have more toys (for the £££s being charged for it then it really should have everything) but I'd wager you'd need to push the car hard to really notice the differences. The MkII has more than enough 'spirit'  for everyday motoring and I've been lucky to find a decent dealer for servicing. For the money I paid for a lightly used MKII example I really can't justify it changing it for a few years - OK, there's a tiny rattle when the dash plastics shrink in the cold winters (brilliantly quiet in this heatwave, everything expanded and holding together, haha) but overall it runs like a dream, carries anything I shove in it without fuss and is really comfortable.

Think I'll be holding out for a used new model once any teething troubles have been sorted out, get the benefit of someone else sucking up the depreciation. And as much as the latest model looks great, spending £20k+ on any new car won't guarantee you wouldn't get a lemon ...

I thought about replacing mine but a poor trade in value & a road test of the car i thought about changing into changed all that, apart from the high road tax the vrs is all i want from a car,its proving very reliable, good on fuel for a 2.0t,most of the toys i need (rear parking sensors would be nice)more than quick enough for everyday driving,i like the look of it,quality is good,i will now keep it until the time comes when its not worth repairing,i suspect i will have it for another 10 years.

Had Skoda's for years, only changed for different models in the past.

Got my current one after having a Fabia vRS with a poorly engine (and it not being big enough really)

Had a Diesel vRS that I borrowed to pay for and regret selling it early even though I lost nothing in depreciation. Still wish I had it :(

Gone but not forgotten. If I had the funds I'd get a Petrol vRS facelift, but then  my current Elegance does everything I need it to do and it's not gone wrong, so why bother?

One day............. :)

Cracking car. Blackline DSG estate.....effectively a more interesting Golf GTD thats also a huge family car, not a poxy little hatchback.

Goes well, economical, nice spec, cheap and touch wood six months old and its not given me a single problem apart from a slight wheel alignment issue...not the cars fault but a bloody potholes (****e UK roads!).

I dont tend to keep my cars very long but if circumstances meant I had to hold onto this one for a few years it'd be no hardship at all, without doubt overall a better car than the MK6 Golf 2.0 TDi GT that it replaced.

I love my mk2 vRS too! :)

Loved my octy mk1 vrs but tbh dissapointed with my mk2vrs :(

But the mk1 is very very ugly!

I had my vrs from new 6 and a  half years and only changed as I had been wanting an R36 for years and one came for sale in my town, and my mums death meant I could treat myself. The new one is far  too expensive and sits WAY too high ( apart from brochures and videos )

But the mk1 is very very ugly!

So is the front of the mk2 ;)
