Xenon adjustment for French holiday

Featured Replies

Hi - I know there are other posts on this topic, but I couldn't find the exact answer I was looking for, so hopefully someone can clear this up for me fairly easily ...

I have a '56 reg Octavia L+K with Xenon headlights, and I am going to France soon for a holiday. The car has the maxidot menu, but I cannot find any setting to adjust the headlights (as mentioned in other posts).

Can someone tell me:

  1. Do I need to access some kind of hidden menu to adjust the headlights using maxidot?
  2. Does headlight adjustment need to be enabled by a dealer to work via maxidot?
  3. Does this year / model not have the necessary headlight adjustment via maxidot?

If the last one, how do I adjust the headlights for driving in France?

Many thanks

Dave

A 2006 car does not have the maxidot option to adjust the Xenon headlights. That function is post face lift.

The Xenon headlamps have to be adjusted manually by means of a lever inside each headlight unit. You can do it yourself, as long as you have torx drivers to remove the cover on the back of the headlight.

There is a useful guide/discussion on the subject here http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/214693-continental-driving-headlight-adjustment/

Whatever you do, don't be tempted to adjust Xenon headlights via the adjustment knobs on the rear of the headlight. The xenons must be put into 'learn' mode to use these........only use the lever inside the headlight, as this is specifically for flattening the beam for continental driving.

On the fl maxidot - "travel mode" flattens the beam, for those with factory fit xenons.

Funny mine does not flaten the beam, it joins roadside beam to other and the.AFS doesn't work. (Xenon retrofit)

I have yet to collection my new cehicle with factory fitted xenons, and it doesnt have maxi dot. I did have an older octavia with halogen headlights and just prior to getting on the ferry I took the headlights out and mover the lever manually to flatten the beam, took 2-3 mins in total.

Is this the same process with xenon ???

Yes. Except the rear cover on the headlight is held on with Torx screws.....on the halogen unit you can just remove this cover by hand.

Thanks for the replies, that's my question answered, shame I don't have the adjustment option via maxidot. I'll try making the adjustment manually at the weekend, then decide if I'm brave enough to leave it until I'm on the ferry!

Is it possible to get stick on adjusters for Xenon headlights as a backup?

Guys, I have a Mk1 2004 L&K with Xenons. Can these be adjusted in the same way?

This was the question I wanted answered. The procedure is exactly the same, the only difference appears to be that xenon lights have a torx screw holding on the cover and others are able just to remove the cover

The Mk2 has torx screws to undo and a lever inside the headlight to flatten the beam for foreign use.......I've no idea if this applies to a Mk1 Octavia with Xenons.

Coming home & leaving home only comes from the factory if the car was fitted with light assistant (i.e the light/rain sensor and auto dip mirror). You can ativate it with VCDS without a sensor but the lights come on regardless of the light level as the car has no way to determine if it is actually dark outside.

No UK vRS cars (at least) came with footwell lighting and is bound to have been an OEM retrofit.

As pipsyp already said - ch/lh (auto lights) were factory fitted.

I retrofitted the footwell lights, using the oem connections & vcds.

Travel mode cause of the factory fit xenons.

The options shown in maxidot r dependant on wat is fitted to the car.
