Thanks

Featured Replies

This is to thank the many useful posts about Felly ownership I see every day; after a gap of some years it has been a great help in sorting out the niggles with SWMBO's "Big White Car"

Thanks especially to J242 for the spare parts, the car now has a working lock on the hatch, and I will swap the other locks over as soon as I ave the time - I am assuming I can just swap the immobilizer chips in the keys???

My biggest worry with this felly was the soft brakes, but that has been cured with a hammer and a chunk of wood - the one side of the drums was stuck.

Now a question; the drums look fairly new and the pads are fine, but should I copper grease the various gubbins inside to stop them sticking again?? I will also be changing the brake and rad fluids, as I have no idea when they were changed last.

Keep up the good work guys.

You need to asses what seized the brake drum (rust of course, but what part).

I would check if the drum didn't develop a 'lip' from wear (diameter wear limit = 201 mm)

Then I would copper grease the contact points of the pushrod, bottom restoring spring, and obviously the 3 'humps' that each shoe rubs on. The rest of parts need some rust cleaning with a wire brush and some WD40.

Of course, if you live in a humid region where your teaspoon gets rusty after you stirred your tea, that's another story.

There is no rust, the insides look brand new and are completely clean, except for a tiny amount of dust which I brushed out. I suspect they locked up because of being left standing since October last year.
