Rear wiper....mind of its own?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,my car has developed a strange fault with the rear wiper....

It's fine until I get a few miles down the road and then all of a sudden it comes on and won't stop!

It wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't so dry,but it makes a right racket.

I'm not sure exactly where the wires run for it,I suspect they run along the left side of the car behind the cd changer?

As my water/meth bottle now sits in place of the cd changer I'm wondering if I could have trapped a wire or if its rubbed through, due to a lack of space, because there are a few wires with a water/meth kit!

I don't really want to go through the hassle of removing most of the water/meth kit being as its boxed in and carpeted!

Any members suffered with this one before?

Cheers all!????

Pop the boot hatch cover off and check for corrosion around the motor and wiring.

very common fault there, so you might not have to go under the water/meth unit at all

I have a spare rear wiper motor if your one is goosed, pm me if you are interested.

Interestingly,it didn't do it at all on the way home from work this morning, even though it was peeing it down!

I'll have a nosy later when the rain clears....at mate!!

If its just corrosion happy days....no new bits required....just some cleaning up to do hopefully!

I had this problem with my old mk1,i removed the motor & stripped it down & it was full of water,it lasted about a month then seized up,i put a 2nd hand motor on & it was fine after that.

Mine gave up on Thursday. Went very erratic. Then just died, won't work at all now.

Changed it 5 years ago, but same thing has happened, water in motor.

Just going to remove and cap it off this time and just put some rain repellant on the rear screen.

What halfords part for the bung/blank ?

There is no part number just get there widest Black bung think it is 25mm

These wiper motor asm just go banana's when water ingress gets into the electrical components. This is due to the crud design.

The water travels through the whole motor asm via a metal pipe to the external water jets. This pipe corrodes and let's water into components.

Most if not all strips downs  will fail as it is the metal tube that is part of the top cover is the culprit. So unless you replace that no point. And you can't just replace that as dealers sell whole asm.

I have had 3 go since i have had mine

Just bought these PVC ones

Cheers guys, looks like its going then!

I'll get a bung from halfrauds when I'm in town next...

Cheers guys!!

I'd personally keep the rear wiper and just disconnect the rear wash feed at the pump end - no more motor corrosion!

But a wiper still with a mind of its own. This defeats the object of original issue.

Got round to it just

Couple of quid to do. Washer pipe cable tied up away with motor connector, tested and no leaks if I try and use rear wiper.
