Octavia 3 - Wing Mirror LED Downlighters?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

First post so be gentle....

I have spent a good hour on this forum just reading, it is good to find a central hub of skoda owners who share helpful information!

I am soon to order a new octavia (god willing), I think I am a lighting enthusiast, and really like changing interior and exterior lights for LEDS or brilliant white lights.

I came across this part which suggests mirror downlights for the octavia 3? I cannot seem to find this on the brochure and was wondering if anyone could help? Is this an extra?

Mirror downlights come standard in Elegance trim here in Slovenia. Probably in UK as well. They are however with standard light bulbs :)

I just looked at an Elegance estate demonstrator yesterday and it had the downlighters in the mirrors, so they are standard.

I'm with you on replacing standard bulbs with LEDs and will look at it myself when I get mine.

I picked up an elegance in Ireland and the down lighters in the mirrors were missing... Funny that as they were in the late mk II models over here

Differences in ROI and UK / NI are very annoying laurpet, especially things that I just can't get that I can get if I drove 20 mile or so.

Glad that its a lottttt cheaper though

My elegance has the puddle lights -which are standard bulbs -they dim gradually so not sure that this would cause a problem if replacing with LEDs

Does the vRS get these? ;)

Elegance in Romania has them standard too.

Hey guys,

What are the function of these lights? do they come on when the car is unlocked only?

Hey guys,

What are the function of these lights? do they come on when the car is unlocked only?

They come on at night when you open the doors so you can see where to go in case there are no other lights around :)

In case your car has so called 'light assistant' then you can set them to turn on when unlocking or locking the car also (coming home, leaving home settings I think)

Has anyone managed to update the software so that these come on as you reverse?  Thereby acting as some illumination for the kerb when you can't see a thing?  Otherwise they are practically pointless..

They're called puddle lights and this gives a clue to their use, to light up puddles by the doors, they don't light up the ground far enough back to be of any use when reversing, thats what your reversing lights are for.

The trouble with the reversing light is that they don't illuminate your view of the side of the car and therefore your rear wheels, which I am trying to avoid kerbing for the 3rd time ;-)

I thought that any light would be better than none.  As puddle illuminators I think that they are a gimmick.

My MK7 Golf GT estate has LED puddle lights as standard, maybe look for VW parts see if they fit?
