adaptive cruise control and front assist

Featured Replies

hi all

does anyone have any links/knowledge on how the acc will work on the new octy?  ive checked the manual (no mention of it) and scoured the web and I cant really find any info on it apart from it doesnt work under 30kph

Ive ordered a dsg VRS last week and Im wondering if Ive missed a trick by not including it and if I did would it be useful or even enabled in start/stop motorway traffic?

Its not cheap at £750 but im wondering if the insurance companies will start discounting if you have it as it comes with front assist??

ive found this video on the audi system but to me it sounds a lot more advanced - http://youtu.be/MKBCGZn3icY

theres also the skoda/vw computer modelled acc video but it doesnt really tell you much of how it works day to day.

i think so this videos will help you

That protection assistant is brilliant, first thing I'm going to do when I get my vrs is see if I can close the windows without touching anything! Excellent! :)

Hi guys,

i came to this post by looking for information about the ACC.

Actually, i seem to have problem activating propertly the ACC so that the car stops, and then starts automatically (i have DSG, and the manual says it's possible, on page 156 or 159 depending on manual language).

While the cars in front of me are slowly moving, mine follows them very well, even at very very low speed.

But if car in front of me stops to 0, then mine also stops, as expected, but then it beeps, and asks to press the brake pedal.

If i don't do so, then the brake is released, and car start to move while the one in front of me is still stopped.

Anyone with same situation? Is there a solution so that the car stays stopped

Mine does the same which I think it normal.  The difference is that the stopped time is very short.  Ive had mine stop very briefly and carry on but if its any longer it will immediately ask you to put the brake on and disable the ACC

This is from the manual

  • Vehicles with an automatic transmission can decelerate to a standstill and start
  • moving again using the ACC.
  • Decelerate to a standstill
  • If a vehicle ahead decelerates to a standstill, the ACC will also decelerate your vehicle to a standstill.
  • Starting to drive again after a holding period (This is the very short bit)
  • As soon as the vehicle ahead starts moving again after a holding period, your vehicle will also move and the speed will continue to be regulated. Control is automatically disconnected in case of longer holding periods.
  • Take over the steering and apply the brake.

Yes, that's because the Octavia doesn't have the Auto Hold that the Golf has, so it can't keep the car at a standstill by itself. So you have to do it by pressing on the brakes. It's intended, I'm afraid.

It's nowhere mentionned in the manual that Auto Hold is needed for this to work.

If really this is needed, then it's bad from Skoda :(

But anyway, isn't Auto Hold meant for hills?

That's Hill Hold. The Auto Hold uses the ABS to keep the brakes on for the entire duration you are stationary. Hill Hold does the same but only for 2 seconds to prevent you from rolling back down a hill. The Octavia has HH, the Golf has both HH and AH.
