Fabia mk2 upgrade options... What do you recommend?

Featured Replies

I'm a recent proud owner of a new mk2 Fabia vRS. It hasn't taken long for me to find the limitations of the standard stereo unit and I'm keen to upgrade and get a better sound from the car.

So, what have people done and what are your recommendations?

The car is of course under warranty, so I don't want to be going too crazy - no wire cutting or full-on installs for me!

As i see it there are two main options:

1- buy an aftermarket HU (maybe a chinese Android type?) enabling the reasonably simple adding of amp/sub etc.

2- add to the existing head unit - maybe high level amp inputs or I have seen these plug and play type units from Blaupunkt:

What i want is some, good, usable, thumpy bass. Either option, i'm gonna want a sub. I want to maximise boot space, so maybe an underseat solution?

I've been out of the loop of car audio for some years (I used to have an awesome Becker,JL audio, Pheonix Gold system back in the day!) so would appreciate the views of those who have done an upgrade or know what they would do...

Help, I need my bass!!!

Hi

You should check my thread on my build. Its 50% finished but you get the idea. 2x16" subs with the amps mounted on the box. Quick release system so no need to cut wires, just use ISOs and make it all 'plug in'. Works a treat for me. Ive had my box out and in twice with no problems. Im gonna run the second amp for the 'inside' speakers (the ones that arent the sub) but use ISOs to connect. This is just for me BUT it will prevent you from cutting anything and still gives the option of adding the amp. Only downside is you need a lot of cable and an ISO switch and this equals lower quality sound :(

You dont need a box like mine or massive subs! its the 'quick release' system that can seperate it from the origional system that will save you any greif with the warranty.

DONT go down the android route unless you spend ££££ on it. Make sure, if your going to amp it up, you have 3 RCA outs, Sub, Front and rear! MOST important thing. That way you have full control over all speakers. If you do what im doing and have a removeable sub then the ISO switch should switch between the amps and the head unit so make sure it has a good powered speaker out (Mine is 52W per channel).

Hope this helps. Check my thread http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/286196-mk1-laurin-klement-pd130-project/
