Possible group buy

Featured Replies

Found a main manufacturer of car cleaning products based in a little unit next door to where my kid trains Brazilian Jiujitsu.

Anyway got chatting to the owner and they manufacture products for other companies who then dilute them mix them with other stuff or just sell it straight off as there own products. As such these are sold in fairly big drums (gallons) or minium 5l bottles. They typically have very plain labels with just the coshh info on and some basic name not fancy names just like wheel cleaner or shampoo conditioner etc.

I think some of the wheel cleaners are acid based so I need to be careful.

Im gonna get some samples and test them on my car and find out whats in them etc. But if its good stuff and very cheap is anyone interested? Just post below if yes so I can guage the sort of numbers. Once I have tested the products ill report back.

I don't think its Swissvax quality but its all garish pink and green colours and smells nice so might be ok for general washes pre-washes as long as its LSP safe.

Quality dependant I'd be interested

As said..If they are tried and tested and good quality

I'd be interested to hear of your results...

Now that I have a few possible interested parties can you give me a few questions to ask them that will satisfy your curiosities. By the looks of it they have huge vats of chemicals and many product ranges. So I would like to go armed with a few questions like dilution ratio's if its safe to use in snow foam lance etc?

Car Shampoo?

Snow Foam?

QD?

Wheel Cleaner..pH Neutral non acidic or caustic?

An idea of who they supply would be good, but I doubt very much if you will get this info.

Although it is tempting, I would be more worried if the ‘shampoo’ was closer to a TFR, so more likely to strip all the wax from the car.

Surely sometimes you want to strip the wax off the vehicle to get it back to the wood so you know your working from scratch. And then subsequently you want a shampoo that is LSP safe so all your wax isn't removed. Im guessing they will have both so I will ask.

This is true, but a TFR that strips wax I would use a couple of times a year, a PH neutral one would be ideal and used weekly.

Interested too, once tried and tested. Let us know how you get on.

i'd be interested in some, dependent on results

Right then had another chat with the guys today and my findings are as follows:

1. They are a manufacturer and as such we can formulate the solutions to however we want assuming you know what you want however I think we should stick to the tried and tested products they supply to valeters to start with before and if we ask them to tweak it.

2. Some of their products are Classed as Wax safe although he said all products including those sold by others will always have some small degradation of the existing protection (wax / sealer) although they are designed to avoid this as much as possible.

3.  He did mention TFR's but I didn't know what that meant and to avoid looking like a numpty I didn't ask him what its was hoping one of you could clarify.

He's going to let me have some samples to try on my cars and I will photo the results and report back.

Indicative prices for the products I was most interested in below:

1. Non Acid Based Wheel Cleaner = £10 per 5L

2. Shampoo (Their equivalent to AGS) = £10 Per 5L

3. Wax safe Snow Foam = £10 Per 5L / £35 per 25L

4. Silicone based long lasting Tyre dressing = £17.50 per 5L (they do a matte one but doesn't last very long)

Now obviously im not a shop so the VAT is included and also I can't be held responsible for any unsatisfied customers

I'm just trying to do you lot a favour if it starts getting a bit of a hassle then I wont bother as you can't always please

everyone. As long as your all realistic about your expectations then it should be ok the more we buy we can get discount

but they are just the standard prices quoted above but I think they were pretty good as a start Let me know your thoughts

Delivery is going to be the worst bit as some people live in Scotland etc It could bump the price up until its starts getting

not cost effective. Im pretty central though in Nottinghamshire so people could collect.

P.S. they also sell all the microfiber cloths and detailing / wheel brushes etc.

Any products you can think of that may be of interest to most people on here then let me know and I will get prices.

Some idea on postage costs per 5 litre would be good too mate...I cannot collect

Chris this is the bit that might make it unrealistic or at least not cost effective. Will a standard courier take chemicals? I know i have sent things around the uk before similar size and weight for next day signed for and it cost about £6.75. Large quantities would need to be on a pallet and cost about £40 per pallet but you can fit a lot on a pallet. I guess 25l bottle would be not much more than it cost to send a 5l though.

What did you think to the initial prices?

Once i have tested the products and took some photo's of the results i will work out some proper prices for the delivery.

Its pointless me checking delivery atm i want to make sure the products are worth the money first. Watch this space.

OK...No rush..Holidays and all that

3.  He did mention TFR's but I didn't know what that meant and to avoid looking like a numpty I didn't ask him what its was hoping one of you could clarify.

TFR is a Traffic Film Remover, mainly used for commercial vehicles and no doubt most of the hand car wash places, it is very good at cleaning vehicles with minimum effort required, but will also strip off any wax easily due to it’s strength.

Right then back from the Factory with some testers and just waiting for a nice day to try them out.

In adition to the ones quoted above they gave me a solution they call Superwax or quickwax. Its a new product they have just developed its technically not a wax at all got some sort of complicated co-polymer synthetics.  I think its mainly a drying aid they basically stuck some in a atomiser spray bottle and sprayed some all over their delivery van liberally. Then jet washed it and the water couldn't wait to get off the vehicle it worked on glass plastic trim and paint surfaces. It was really interesting to see the difference where they had sprayed the superwax and an untreated area. The contrast was like night and day, on the untreated area's the water just hung around sticking to the surface. But on the treated area the hydrophopic properties were excellent. I would say you could drive off without towelling dry and the wind would blow the residue off and leave no streaks or water marks. Very impressed. Normally takes me ages to towel the car dry. I think if used in conjunction with a wax it might prolong the life of the wax. They also showed me their Snowfoam He said the Magifoam is much more consentrated and as such will hang around longer but theirs was pretty good and it did a good job of shifting the muck off the delivery van. I need to test these products myself though before i give them the proper thumbs up. Technically because these are cheap! you can use twice as much snowfoam solution to give the same effect and still be better off. Im going to try 2" in the bottom of the lance bottle instead of the 1" i normally use with magifoam that should give similar results we think.

Sadly Mixed results today.

The cars didn't look dirty from the photo's but closer inspection you can see they are grimed up.

Firstly I can't lie the snow foam was cr4p at hanging around on the car. (Did Clean very well though hardly marks left behind after rinse)

Next came the shampoo deep green and jelly like added about a cap full to a bucket of warm water

Shampoo

Quite impressed with this cleaned all remaining grime off the cars without much effort and fuss. (I changed buckets between cars so as not to transfer dirt)

After a quick rinse with the lance I used a atomiser spray with some of the super wax they gave me its pink similar to the snow foam forgot to take a pic.

It worked really well. As you can see from the photo's the water beads up really well once applied. I think next time I will put it in the Snowfoam bottle and jet wash it on rather than using the atomiser spray bottle because after two cars your wrist aches a bit but the water repelling nature of the spray really makes it easy to leather or towel dry to a brilliant shine.

The Super Wax stuff is £15 per 5L ill be buying this and maybe the shampoo but not the snowfoam I will stick with magifoam. I haven't tries the wheel cleaner yet or the tyre dressing, but I have seen the tyre dressing on their works van and its pretty good all though a bit shiny.

If anyone is interested post below and if anyone has done a group buy before and has any suggestions for setting it up promoting it etc. then let me know.
