Deposit paid on GLII

Featured Replies

Hi all,

New here but just put a deposit down on a GLII and should collect her on Tuesday. I came very close to buying a new one when they were launched but stuck with bangernomics for a few more years. Really looking forward to the mpg challenge (have got 74 out of my 406 last summer) and overall cheap running costs.

The car is only two years old, 29,000miles and has recently been serviced. The list of bits at the moment are a mdi lead, dog guard, load space protector and centre armrest. Any guidance on that lot? I am also considering a spare set of winter wheels.

Anyhow, really excited...will help offset my wife's car!

Was about to go to the auctions on Tuesday and buy a 170bhp passat with leather, dsg and sat nav or 1.6 bluemotion...failing that go up and buy a 140bhp dsg highline plus. Shame as was looking forward to a little creature comfort but this deal is a complete no brainer....just seen the servicing costs from the main dealer. So cheap I may be tempted!

Well there is the story and I look forward to the advice from here over the next few years!

Kind regards,

Ed

Ed,

Had my Greenline Estate a month and its great, still getting used to the drop in power compared to my diesel fabia VRS but cruises fine, put the armrest, boot liner and sunglasses holder in mine and all are very good, best I managed mpg so far was 74mpg on a 20mile run, but weather conditions really affect the fuel economy the Wind! Averaging 63mpg but my car has only done 1700 miles!

Hope you enjoy the car!

Congrats on your new used car! I've had my used GLII (currently at 31000 miles) for 4 months now and covered some 7000 miles with an average of 70mpg. Best I've ever done was 88 mpg on a 200-mile run, admittedly there was some tailwind. That said, 80 mpg is quite easy to achieve on long trips, but the next city miles then ruin the whole thing...

Cheers guys,

What is the best armrest to go for?

Ed

Only had my GLII Estate for 4 days and I'm loving it!! I've done over 200 miles in it already and finding it very comfortable to drive! Still getting used to the 'Start/Stop' and the lower rev range than my old Civic, but I wouldn't give it up now!, not for the world!!

Check out a couple of Pics I posted! :D

Good Luck and Enjoy your purchase!! :)

... Still getting used to the 'Start/Stop' and the lower rev range...

Oh yes, if you do a lot of city driving the start/stop takes some time to get used to, and especially if you need to make a full stop at an intersection out on the open road. And the lower revs and longer gears really feel different than other diesels. It took me quite a while before I would dare to cruise along at 30mph in 4th gear or 40 mph in 5th. With the latter I'm always afraid that the engine will stallat  any moment, but surprisingly it doesn't, as long as there is enough momentum to keep it going forward. I', not sure the engine really likes being driven at such low revs, but it's great for fuel economy.

Picked her up yesterday. There is a tiny nick in the rear bumper and a graze on the offside mirror housing. Apart from that, if you could not see the mileage and reg she was like collecting a new car. She has 29000miles.

On the walkaround I discovered the previous owner had specced a spare wheel so no need to find on of those. He had also left the mdi iPod connector. Looking around this morning it seems she also has curtain airbags. He had also kindly left half a tank!

The drive home from stamford took us via Peterborough kiddicare to collect two new britax boosters for the kids. Up until dartford, the car was doing 85 mpg with ac on and cruise but traffic and hills then took their toll getting home with 80mpg. Surprising amount of torque and interesting gearbox. Any idea what the green reservoir buried down behind the near side headlight is?

So in short I am genuinely delighted with the car. Need to source an armrest but she is great...pity about the old biddy bluey grey colour but cannot have everything.

Great car!

Congrats and enjoy the car. Power steering fluid reservoir with the green lid.

80-85 mpg sounds fantastic. She must have been driven in well by the previous owner. keep in mind, though, the in-car mpg counter may be  a bit more optimistic than your real-life stops at the filling station. That said, mine is suprisingly accurate, not more than a 2% error.

Edit: Hit the Post button too late. Without a picture it's hard to tell what that reservoir is. is it the windscreen washer fluid reservoir? That's the thing closest to the lamps/grille that comes to my  mind. The manual may have an answer for you there, look for the engine compartment section.
