Redex.........your thoughts

Featured Replies

Asda have got redex on off for £2 a go and my car does a lot of short journeys but at the weekend its getting a good runout to the lakes.I always run the car on 99 momentum but i thought tonite if i blew a tenner on redex and chucked a few bottles in on a full tank will it give the car a good clear out or am i wasting my pennies...Also with the sea foaming idea, could this work using redex instead? Btw the car is an 06 petrol vrs

Your thoughts plz :)

Well you won't need a few bottles. I think 1 treats 2 or so tanks of petrol/derv, so should be sparking clean by then.

For £2, why not? Won't do any harm.

Yer right mate but i thought seen as the car is getting a good run out a good mix of the stuff may give it a right good clean

It will. But injectors do get dirty and a squirt of the detergent in the Redex will clean them.

Was also thinking a dose would clean the inlet valves a bit perhaps ???

Ive got the same car and use the same fuel i always chuck a bottle in every couple of months hopefully nice and sparkly inside :-)

Can you ever tell thought mate ?

You won't notice anything mate. I'm sure it has its benefits! Especially on a diesel.

Terra clean, can highly recommend it

You don't get fuel wash on the inlet valves on a direct injection motor. Definitely no benefit in that respect!

I thought that the PD diesels should never have any form of additives at all put into the tank, and that damage could be done by doing so. Can anyone confirm this please?

I've looked into this in the past and never been able to find anything specific to the PD preventing the use of fuel additives.

VAG's official line is simply to say that no fuel additives should be used in any of their engines, whether petrol or diesel.

I have certainly known people to use diesel additives in PDs for 150k+ without it causing any harm.

Odd that they state that as most petrol and diesel has additives of some form or another.

Been away from redex for a few years, not since I had a carbbed car and you put some in the tank and some in the butterflies, so I presume we're all talking about a slightly different product made by them, yes? And does it ACTUALLY do anything worthwhile??

get some proper cleaners from here as I'm currently using Archoil and they only sell tried and tested products

Which Archoil though? There is so many options...

i have used Redex for years, never had any fuelling problems.

Think i will buy 4 or 5 bottles tomorrow and chuck the lot in,cant do no harm :)

100ml AR6400 for initial clean then regular use of AR6200 5ml for each full tank

Don't think Redex does any harm it is just not powerful enough to shift baked on carbon and there are better products out there

I never use Redex and haven't had any fuelling issues. Just use good quality fuel.

I equate cheap fuel and Redex to eating McDonalds all the time and then taking vitamins. Better to eat healthy in the first place.

It's snake oil. Waste of money. If you needed it in fuel then the then oil companies would put it in the fuel, or Skoda would tell you to add it. Neither happens.

Save your money.

+1

I have used supermarket fuel (and other fuel in an emergency), both petrol and diesel on a variety of vehicles over the past thirty years and never had a fuelling problem. I have never noticed a difference in MPG either.

I use supermarket fuel, but I put some Millers Diesel Ecomax in it at every fill-up. Never done me wrong, my old Fabia vRS used to run really well using it, so hopefully my new Octavia vRS will too.

You say it's never done you wrong. Has it done you any good? Have you tried without it? I bet you don't see any difference.

I think additives maybe did have a place 30+ years ago when leaded petrol/carbs etc were all in use. That's all gone now, you're just pouring extra money away.

If you needed them then Skoda would tell you. It's just money for old rope.

I did try without it for a time with my Fabia and I did notice a difference in how it ran, not as pokey and ran a little rougher. Haven't noticed much difference on my Octy yet as I've not had it for very long. I'll be running without it when I go to France this weekend for 2 weeks so I'll see.
