Dealing with a big paint chip

Featured Replies

I've noticed a relatively big chip on one of my pillars. Apparently it was there when I first got it, as it's on the pictures I took originally. But I have only just noticed.

The weather is starting to get horrific and wet, so I'd like to treat and re-paint this now. Is this something you think I could do myself with a touch up kit or would you suggest getting it professionally done.

I don't have a mega-load of disposable income at the moment so I'd like to do this cheap if possible. Just need something to stop the rest of the paintwork, or the metal, getting ****ed by the rain.

Was going to get something like this : http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_221343_langId_-1_categoryId_165580

Yep, get that... Other thing to suggest is getting a rust stabiliser on it first. Something like KURUST by Hammerite.

Unless you rub that right down and good idea to use rust preventative followed by primer to match up the step in paint depth - its certainly going to rust through again anyway, its gone past eletrocote ?

I'd personally prime it and blend it in and then try and spray to a feature line, like mask it right on any edge/s and spray a wider area in an attempt to blend in any difference in paintwork colour

You'd be better off with yellow - you can get away with murder with this colour ! Doesn't help now but white may be a good future colour purchase....or use ventureshield if you have a metallic

Unless you sand away that bubbling edge,no matter how well you touch it up itll carry on peeling. .and as said youd ideally need to sand back to make all the paint flush again and treat the metal before any paints go on it.

I bought some KURUST and ordered a genuine touch up. Noticed a small patch of peel / rust on the corner of a rear wheel arch too so want to get it sorted. I'm not too fussed if its not perfect. I'd just enjoy it not rusting. So if I need to sand back a bit and treat it first, I'm willing to do so.
