I've got a Sony 5MP camera. The quality is fantastic but I can't post the images here as most of them are for school purposes and there are children in them.

Prices have dropped rapidly but they do use a lot of memory so a bigger card (min 128 for a light to average user) is necessary.

Forgot the other beauty of the canon is it takes compact flash memory which is the cheapest you can buy

If you already have an Olympus, what about a MJU 400 or 500. You should then be able to use your (probably) XD cards, and the metal bodied MJU is weatherproof and very robust.

Thanks everyone. Have ordered a Canon A70 just now. My Olympus doesn't use Xd cards-too old, uses Smart Media cards.

thegavster - how do you do that coloured parrot over black & white background.

Looking forward to camera arriving now.

cheers

I used photoshop to do the colour over black and white. The whole picture was colour, but I used a colour mask to make the background black and white.

You will love the camera. Very easy to use for just pointing and shooting, and if you feel the need to get more technical the options are there for you to play about with.

What battery type does the canon cameras you are referring to use?

I am also looking to get a compact digital camera before august, but i have been told to avaoid the ones with the normal batteries and get a rechargeable one (the ones that come with the camera).

Another vote for the Canon A70 here.

A few weeks after I got mine, my boss bought one for the company and he's now going to buy one for his wife.

Definately avoid ones that take standard batteries they eat them!

I have two digital camera's one for serous stuff the other for snapping.

Canon EOS 300D with 28-90mm 75-300mm lenses

Canon Ixus V3 (now a little old but a great compact camera!)

Has anyone had any experience with Panasonic's Lumix range?

Quite like the look of the new LZ2 they've got out now...6x optical zoom and supposedly cutting-edge image stabilising...just wondered if it lives up to the hype...

Got to say I disagree - have one that takes AA batteries and you can carry spares and get more easily if need be. I have 3 sets of AA Ni-MH 2000mAh batteries and always keep a spare set of charged ones with the camera.

If they both run out then any shop sells AA's. They do get through them fairly quickly though.

I used to have a Sony with a dedicated battery but it was a nightmare - once it had run out (which didn't tkae long at all), you were stuck until you could recharge it.

I just brought a Canon S70 -7mp, and lots of manual modes. It's a little bit heavier than a lot of compacts, but available for

What was the final price if you don't mind me asking?

For batteries, I got 2 for my Canon 350D from these people across the pond..http://www.sterlingtek.com/index.html

If your interested, I paid 38 dollars (or there abouts) for 2 batteries that are almost twice the ampage rating for less than the UK price of an original Canon (
