Cornering Fogs Pre-FL

Featured Replies

I have trawled through all the posts in this section and used the search. However I can't find if its possible to use the fog lights on the pre fl 2006 Octavia VRS (circular ones) for cornering assistance to see the kerb edge. If it is possible could someone post a link or instructions on how to enable it. I have Full VCDS Cable.

Not possible on a 2006. Too early to have that feature fitted.

Thanks, that's a bugger would have been useful for twisty lanes at night

what year can they be done in?

I believe it can be done but you need to change the central electrics unit for a 30byte one. I'm sure it's not quite as simple as that but I believe that's the basics of it

Only works at low speeds (15km/h I think).

Whats the point in that? I wouldn't need to see the apex going that slow :giggle:  I don't think my car can do that slow without stalling

It's for manoeuvring in car parks, etc.

For higher speed driving you need Xenons with cornering function (AFS I think!)

Is there nothing useful I can add to my Pre FL then? Since buying the cable I have only done autoscans and helped a few member out with their mods.

Any suggestions?

Teardrop wiping, turn the locking chirps on, retro fit BT or Columbus or cruise control, turn coming home lights (of sorts) on.

Nothing really exciting on the age of car you have.

1. What's the teardrop wiping?

2. Actually thinking about disabling the chirping on my backline.

3. don't need blutooth

4. Got MFD2 satnav

5. Got cruise control

6. Will consider the Home lights what's the deal with this on, Do your lights stay on for a while after you lock the car to enable you to see the house?

1. Wipe. Wipe. Wipe. Pause. Dribble. Wipe.

6. Lights stay on for a set interval before turning off (interval can be set in VCDS) automatically irrespective of whether it is actually dark or not.

Ah ok teardrop wipe is already on then, a source of immense frustration when its perfectly clear on the third wipe and then it gets smudged by the fourth wipe. Might turn this off then didn't know it was an option although come to think of it don't think it does it on the backline. Not sure on the Lights might trial it. Thanks for the info you have been most helpful.

I turn the CHL on in winter and off in spring.

I only have it set for 30 seconds (enough to light the gate while I shut it).

Just to add another point to the list; enabling both of the rear fog lamps, a feature I find very useful and was not present in the stock settings of the car.

I think the dealers must have enabled all this stuff on mine before i got it because both mine come on already and i haven't changed anything.

How do you get the lights to turn off when you lock the car? Mine stay on if I leave them on.

It's 40kmh, I had them activated on my 2007 (57) pre-FL vRS.

The fogs aren't that bright on the vRS so their effectiveness is diminished, they are much better on the Yeti and Superb.

You don't, it's down to the length of time set with VCDS as to how long they stay on.

Care to elaborate. On my Pre FL VRS they stay on permanently if i lock the car (which is a bugger because the alarm that tells you they have been left on is knackerd) The Blackline VRS lights go off when you lock the car even if you have left them switched on in the car. I wan't this behaviour in the other one anyone know how to do this in VCDS?

There is a difference in the hardware between the FL and pre FL cars, which means some thing are not possible on pre FL cars which are on FL. From poking around with VCDS on my pre GL car there is only the time option

Well i want them to go off straight away so do i set the value to Zero? Whats the Area i need to look in central electronics?

If you don't want the timed CHL then don't activate it. Then it won't come on at all.

Sorry i think everyone is misunderstanding the current behaviour of my lights. When i lock and walk away from my Pre FL if i have accidentally left the lights switched on they will stay on (INDEFINATELY) until my battery is flat. If i do the same to the blackline (lock and walk away) they turn off imediately even if the switch inside is in the on position. Im not sure what the default behaviour should be but i would like my Pre FL to do the same and turn off with the lock on the keyfob. There can be no amiguity as to if i have left the lights on or not then.

I'm after the same thing on my pre-fl. I found this thread which I believe gives similar behaviour: http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/184601-chlh-lights-on-octavia-ii1z/

Though it still keeps the lights on for the duration set for CHLH lights, which I believe can be a minimum of only 10 seconds (or I would set it to 0 or 1 second).
