Cornering Fogs Pre-FL

Featured Replies

Sorry i think everyone is misunderstanding the current behaviour of my lights. When i lock and walk away from my Pre FL if i have accidentally left the lights switched on they will stay on (INDEFINATELY) until my battery is flat. If i do the same to the blackline (lock and walk away) they turn off imediately even if the switch inside is in the on position. Im not sure what the default behaviour should be but i would like my Pre FL to do the same and turn off with the lock on the keyfob. There can be no amiguity as to if i have left the lights on or not then.

If you leave your lights on they will stay on. That is the default behaviour on a pre-FL. You should also have an audible warning as well.

If you activate CHL on your pre-FL and set the time delay to 1 second (or 0 if that is possible) then you'll get what you want.

Doing this will deactivate to audible warning when it is switched to main beam, but not when side lights are on.

HTH

Just to check something else that may be causing the loss of your buzzer; when you open the driver's door, do you get a visual display on you dash that shows a door is open?

If not, it may be the door micro switch that is not sensing the door is open and could be causing some if the issues.

It's a common problem on pre-FL's.

My buzzer failed early on in the cars life but its part of the instrument panel which has the speedo dials and they are very expensive to replace. I was fine remembering to turn off the lights for years until we purchased the Blackline. Because this turns off the lights automatically when you lock the car you start to rely on this behaviour. Then when i jump in my old VRS i forget. The CHL solution with 1 sec delay will fix the problem though many thanks for all your help. I will have a try doing it tonight.

Sorry yes door indicator comes up on the Maxidot. its defo the buzzer in the Speedo cluster this buzzer operates for a few other functions aswell not just the lights and they stopped working around the same time. Just before it died the buzzer started making a funny crackle. Its been dead for about 5 years lol.

With CHL on timer on 1sec, will it switch off the sidelights aswell as full beam? Its usually the sidelights that i leave on by accident. Generally its easy to see if the full beam is on. Also the other thing that drains my battery is leaving the indicator on when i park at work. This causes the offside light to be switched on. I think this is a legal requirement in germany or something but it flatens my battery can this be turned off?

Side lights don't operate as CHL, but if CHL is activated (1 sec) it will switch off both.

Side lights should still buzz with CHL activated (although not in your case).

Few faults found non of them serious I don't think car feels fine no issues.

Anyway used the long code helper to tick the Coming Home Feature. Initially it throwed up an error saying the module needed initialising. It gave me 3 options

1. Yes, which used some default numbers

2. No, which said attempt used the existing code already in the module (I Chose this one)

3. Cancel, This was escape and enter manually.

Once I chose 2 it came up and said it had been accepted and low an behold the tick is ticked and the Option is now available in maxi-dot

The options are enabled Yes/No  it doesn't say which is which but if you select it toggles between three dashes --- or 80s

below this is -10s or +10s. I have reduced the time displayed down to 10s. However when I save and quit out the maxidot

turn the side lights on and then lock the car with the remote the indicators flash to acknowledge the car is locked but the

sidelights still stay on permanently. What am I doing wrong?

Can anyone help? Im stuck

Its possible to activate Cornering Fogs on a SOII preFL 2008?? And how?

Thanks

Thanks very much for the answer RainbowFire :)

Yes, I know its done with VCDS, and I have it, but I dont know the procedure. If you can tell me the module I need to enter and what to change there.

Thanks a lot!

What year is your car? IIRC the early MKII's didn't have the option.

A quick search gave this coding for a Pre:

Central Convenience Module

Log codiing

To code the cornering light
Byte 23 Bit 2
and bit 3 select the cornering lights by fog lights

It's chucking it down here at the moment, but once it's stopped I'll confirm this one.

There's a bit of info about Cornering Lights and which modules will do them in this thread...

http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/192349-drl-and-cornering-fogs-pre-fl/?p=2292143

my car is 2008.

CECM stands for central electric control module??

What is IIRC?

What's the auto lights got to do with anything I want them to turn off not stay on. All I want is for my lights to turn off with the lock on the key fob if there is a delay then so be it, as long as they go off. I also don't care if there on always in even when its a sunny day as long as they go off when I lock the car. I have the option now displayed on my maxidot and I have adjusted the time delay but it does bugger all.

You're fighting the setup on an early Pre-FL MKII and comparing it to the last of the FL MKII's. Apples and oranges really.

The natural behaviour of the car (for whatever reason Skoda decided) is if you leave the lights on, they'll stay on (I do have to admit I thought I'd read that the car will still turn them off after 60 mins, but there have been so many threads about cornering lights and CH/LH that I really couldn't tell you where it was in Brisky)

You could go through the light/rain sensor retrofit and then install/code the auto-lights feature and switch. Leaving the switch in the Auto position will automatically switch the lights off after a user-defined period. Failing that you really are stuck with the features of an 8 year-old car and the technology of the day.

Because the auto lights switch has extra wiring which I assume allows for the CCU to override the switch. With the standard switch the CCU may not be able to control the sidelights.

Aggghhh thought I was onto a winner then, thanks for your help anyway. Until I got the new one it never bothered me as I always remembered to turn them off. However now that the blackline turns them off automatically I forget which car im driving and they get left on and drain the battery. Whats the point in having coming home lights on in the maxidot then if they can't be used should I use  vcds to untick them again or will that screw things up?

UPDATE !!!!

This feature on the car has suddenly started working ! I haven't done anything with VCDS only thing I have changed is the bulbs to OSRAM Nightbreaker Gold limited edition. Only noticed it this morning as I was walking away from the car and I had forgot to turn them off suddenly it went dark. Turned round went back to the car to check and I had left the lights switched on and they had turned off by themselves about 10s which from memory is what's set on the maxidot for coming home. I don't care why its working it just is so im very happy no more flat battery's.  So looks like it does work on a Pre FL 55 Plate just have to wait a few weeks for it to take effect lol.

Hello Scribbler, I think you have answered the question to your problem in post 33. It said you left the sidelights on and they stayed on, that is what they are supposed to do as parking lights aren't they?

The Coming Home/Leaving Home option will only work when you leave the main headlights on as you are asking the car to light the way home for you. I bet if you were to leave the sidelights only on again then you will find the same thing happening.

Glad you got it sorted in the end as I find it invaluable as I don't have outside lights and don't want to trip up on the stairs when I get in from work at close to midnight.

Ian.
