Exhaust system

Featured Replies

Just about to order a VRS estate diesel manual. Spec is

Race blue

Black Pack

Heated windscreen/seats/washers

Boot net

Park assist

Cruise control

Spare wheel

Amundsen sat nav

Sunset glass

Power tailgate

Grey stitching

Gemini alloys in anthracite

My question is I have read that the drivers side exhaust on the diesel is a fake. Can anyone clarify just how far under the car does the fake exhaust extend? Any pictures or thoughts would be appreciated.

I was/am really happy with spec/deal and the car itself just worried that the exhaust will spoil the overall appearance??

  • Nope.         Step awaaaay from the crazy man ;-)

I think a very small number of people will know about the issue. It's not visible unless you really know what you're looking for and you'll have to look under the car to see it in detail. If you can live with the idea, don't worry about what others think.

I have a diesel vrs, I will try to get some pics later of the exhaust set up once I get it back from havibg the paint protection put on

Fake exhaust, FFS. I think soon as winter comes and people see only fumes out of one pipe, think its going to catch on fast thats one is a fake. thre is no need for that type of cost cutting and the fact the diesel cost's more than the petrol. the way im feeling about the mk3 vrs right now is i dont see me ordering one and going for another make of car. the handbrake is on the wrong side, jumbo box is a lot smaller and not cooled, the glove box is also smaller and the reprts of to much cheap plastic then to top it of the diesel has a fake exhaust. For £22+ grand for the ca,r dont think im going to even think about it till another vat free offer comes up.

Now i feel better and got that out my system lol.

Yip the more I look into the new Octy VRS the more it puts me off trading in my FL VRS

EDIT : I didn't think the power tailgate was listed as an option for the VRS....

Thanks Gleemin. Looking forward to pics. Which paint protection are you getting put on? Have used blackfire in past on my black vrs but have been told the werkstadt range is better suited to the mid tones.

Hopefully the single smokin exhaust will not be too much of an unusual sight :( would have gone for petrol but im a high mileage user.

Bit sad haha

^ ?????????????.

Yuck - have to agree that it's a bit naff to be honest.

For a car that is meant to be the definitive in performance for the brand I'm surprised they'd do this - that said I am also asking this car to return ~50MPG and still look at feel sporty when I want it to, so I guess I have to compromise a bit. They should have just left it with a single tail pipe, plenty of hot hatches do these days.

Bizarre, but why would anyone worry about a fake exhaust, certainly not the first performance model to do this. In twenty years of driving with 30+ cars been and gone I can't think of any point I was worried about how exhaust gases escaped out the back of the car! Lol.

My unscientific and uneducated guess based on nothing but my own (possibly flawed) logic is as follows.

Diesels generally operate at lower revs than petrol, therefore the expulsion of exhaust gasses will not need to be as rapid as a petrol when at full tilt.

As the volume of exhaust gasses won't be as high, the single pipe of the diesel will be sufficient for the engine to function effectively without suffocating itself.

So, if you don't need two pipes, why would you put two on it. The only reason would be for aesthetics and I think they covered that with the fake tail end.

At the end of the day, it looks the same and still functions how it was supposed to work so who cares.

There's no reason to get bent out of shape, and if you feel cheated by the lack of a second pipe then I suggest you re-evaluate your priorities in life.

Diesels actually give out more in the terms of volume of gasses due to the fact they run at much higher combustion. As for getting bent of shape, i dont think so. Getting a bit p***ed off yes, i've waited long enough for the new vrs and keep reading downers on the new car before i have even driven one yet. The point im making is, this is a new car with a huge price increase but skoda have made to many cost cutting errors and to fit a tail pipe that dosent even work is an joke. So when your sittung in traffic on the 23rd of december and the temp is -5c and fumes are only comming out of one pipe, wont be long before the vrs drivers will be the butt of the car jokes. and for your suggestion of re-evaluate my priorities, what has that got to do with the things about a car im not happy about.

I think you kinda made my point, nobody is going to give a rats ass what other people think about vapours coming from one side of the car and not the other, but if your priorities revolve around what others think, then that's entirely up to you.

Not quite.

That's like saying no one cares what others think about the car they drive.

There are some people who really don't care what their car looks like, it gets them from A to B, end of.

Then there are others who are very into their wheels and like to know they are driving a nice looking car, a car admired by others.

Some people think that makes them vain, I think it's actually down to being a bloke, some of us are more into their cars than others.

I laugh when I see cars / owners trying too hard. Seeing a car with every Halfords / Rip Speed accessory stuck on makes me chuckle, but then they are usually young lads driving cheap cars, we've all been there.

If the diesel vRS only needs one tail pipe then only fit one. If aesthetics / customer demand require two exhausts then fine, fit two tailpipes but don't fit a fake one.

The bloke who sees a car as a method of getting from A to B will never notice. Those at the other end of the scale will notice. I'm into my detail and I for one would notice the fake exhaust.

I would therefore rather have one genuine exhaust rather than one real one and one fake one, because I do give a rats arse what others think, a fake exhaust is fitted to car trying to be something it isn't.

Maybe the rear section from the tsi might fit the tdi :)

Has anyone pics of the tsi one? Is the pipes still pointing down at the road?

the last two lines that silver posted hits the nail on the head. There is no place on any car regardless of price for any fake parts. And no i have NOT made your point soapywetdish, you are just not understanding what i am saying, it has nothing to do with priorities or what people think it's a personal thing and my opinion and feelings of fitting fake dummy parts to cars. if audi can fit twin exhausts to there cars from the 2.0tdi it just goes to show so can skoda. Then when you look at the price, most are going to be about the 24k +, this cost cutting is not on. If it's there it work's, if it don't work, it has no place there.

Wouldn't they be cost cutting by removing the exhaust on the right hand side?

Am i right to think the reason they do it is so it doesn't separate the petrol and diesel octavia as they both look the same as with the mk2.

It really doesn't bother me at all its a feature on the car, and if we are being picky the exhaust tips on the petrol are fake as well as the piddly little exhausts on the petrol on behind the tips too.

Peek-a-boo!

Afraid I can't get excited about this, I just see it as a piece of trim, just like any other.

If I was getting a vRS (which I'm not), I'd be more bothered about the two manky, round exhaust pipes poking through the one trim than the other one not having any.

Keep them clean :)
