Exhaust system

Featured Replies

That the car is both more expensive and requires spending even more to put it mostly back to how it was doesn't bother you?

The handbrake on the wrong side is also very close to being a deal breaker for me, for various reasons. Its absolutely unnecessary, screams of lazy costcutting and is inexcusable in a car of this price (£27k for the one I would like).

I think you kinda made my point, nobody is going to give a rats ass what other people think about vapours coming from one side of the car and not the other, but if your priorities revolve around what

What's a jumbo box? The bit under the armrest?

I can honestly say that has never been used in my mk2 as the slot thing just falls down and shuts it off anyway so doesn't bother me.

I like the DAB, Xenons and Bluetooth, makes the car perfect for me, I also like the media system think its cool haha being able to do more on it than with my mk2 that doesn't have maxidot (not my choice).

Think the only thing I'm not keen on on the mk3 is the different driving modes, don't think it's overly essential and the look of the fabric on seats but I can put up with that.

Hahahahahaha seriously? Handbrake on the wrong side is going to stop you buying a car. That's best thing iv heard for ages. Maybe looking in to things a little to much, it's a handbrake used for a very short period of time. Can't see it affecting anything and really can't see how it has made the car cheap.

:/

Maybe they can't afford £27000 so are jealous and finding reasons to keep the mk2....

The new model though is bringing on buyers like me who would NEVER of considered a skoda before. The Octavia 3 made me sit up and listen. I liked what I saw, so I bought one. I have no regrets yet. No it's not perfect, but even with a few flaws its still a damn good car.

Me too, absolutely would not have considered one until now

Put a bottle in the cupholder next to it, then its in the way of the handbrake. Am I missing something?

Oh and yeah, I will go to the dealer, get everything ready for the sale then go, nope, I'm not buying it just because of the handbrake ;)

On the bright side, at least it has a handbrake, unlike every single competitor.

This will be my 5th consecutive Octavia over a period of 14 years, I have never once, not once put a bottle in the centre console. Put sports bottles in the door bin a few times though.

The only slight niggle for me, and I think it might have been me that first pointed it out, no aircon into the jumbo box is a shame. But with counselling and therapy, I might just get over it, in time.

Likewise, as I do want one and am mostly making excuses to not do so :)

Edit: Perhaps 'deal breaker' was too strong a phrase, more like icing on the cake.

Pumatron, you either just dont get it or want to listen what the current owners of the mk2 octy's are saying. yes you are correct, you will never make every one happy with a car, but thats not the point, it's more to do with the spec and features that have been removed or no longer std and the cost cutting. Getting this topic back on track, the fake exhaust, the octy diesel vrs does have two pipes fitted to one side, so why not take one to the drivers side????? If you look at the pictures that silver posted you will see TWO outlets on the exhaust.

Lol, I do get it, and It's all about not pleasing all the people all the time, your not keen on the mk3, I didn't like mk2. It's called opinions and choice. Your perfectly entitled to yours as am I, hence why I happily drive a mk3! It didn't cost me the earth either and I got a great car with excellent spec, especially compared to the opposition. I think it's going to be one these agree to disagree situations.....Getting back on topic.

Exhaust pipes, the Honda civic 2.2 sport I had had trianglular shaped fake exhausts, there was a tiny pipe that fed gases to this fake exhaust and the main exhaust gases came out of the bottom of bumper, it didn't work and it was naff. The design and look was great though and that easily won me over, I can't remember for the type r I had after that but I think that was the same to. So what skoda has done with vrs is nothing new!!!

Maybe they can't afford £27000 so are jealous and finding reasons to keep the mk2....

I can but Iv just bought my mkll so will wait a year or 2 :)

Also that's not a very nice thing too say!

And no offence taken, since this is comedy hour after all :)

Likewise, I ain't got the money to spend replacing a car I am happy with. The latter you can probably tell.

Right, we we talking about exhausts?

Every time you you reply to a post you keep on making things up that where said. Have I said I wasn't keen on the mk3 at any point, no, I have made it clear i was disapointed with certain features with the car.

Which features on the MK3 are missing compared to MK2? I know about the jumbo box lack of aircon inlet, but what else? Genuine question.

Cruise control

Cruise control

I thought this was a bit silly my stock mk2 has cruise control but ml3 doesnt, but then i thought well....

DAB

Bluetooth

Xenons

Probably add up to £1600+ options i could justify the £180 cruise control option

Cruise control

Yep, I'm pretty much sure that's all it lacks and it's gains alot more!

As for the jumbo box cooling in the mkII, it's useless, it's way too weak to cool anything unless you're driving for several hours..... It's like being coughed on by an asthmatic mouse!

Don't forget rear parking sensors too, and multifunction steering wheel for the manual.

Does it come with rear parking sensors standard?

Yep, all octavia's do baring the bottom spec 'S' model.

Yep, all octavia's do baring the bottom spec 'S' model.

Didn't know that, thats a nice little bonus then, i also missed out the USB slot too which my mk2 only had auxiliary port

So is this fair? I guess you could tot up the costs of the missing gear on the MK3 (£180 for cruise but no simple way to re-add the missing aircon feed).

Then you could work out how much the options included in the MK3 would cost if you had them specified as options on a MK2.

Missing on MK3 vRS

  • Air con into Jumbo box
  • Cruise control

On MK3 but not MK2 vRS

  • DAB
  • Bluetooth
  • Rear Sensors
  • Xenons
  • MFSW
  • USB
  • Storage for rear parcel shelf
  • Lane assist
  • Auto wipers / lights (thanks Rob-vrs21)

I might have missed something  :wonder:

Fake exhaust, FFS. I think soon as winter comes and people see only fumes out of one pipe, think its going to catch on fast thats one is a fake. thre is no need for that type of cost cutting and the fact the diesel cost's more than the petrol. the way im feeling about the mk3 vrs right now is i dont see me ordering one and going for another make of car. the handbrake is on the wrong side, jumbo box is a lot smaller and not cooled, the glove box is also smaller and the reprts of to much cheap plastic then to top it of the diesel has a fake exhaust. For £22+ grand for the ca,r dont think im going to even think about it till another vat free offer comes up.

Now i feel better and got that out my system lol.

in which case... what's wrong with having only 1 exhaust?  Is more=better?

Auto wipers and headlights too extra.

Technically petrol will have a heavier exhaust for the extra piping to the other side which isn't better haha
