Exhaust system

Featured Replies

probably not the case, IMO most rational people wouldnt pay £27k for a Skoda Octavia, that sort of money would buy you alot of nice nearly new premium metal.

So £27,000 wouldn't get you a brand new car so is that not respective then, a brand new better car would be dearer answered your own question hahaha

I think you kinda made my point, nobody is going to give a rats ass what other people think about vapours coming from one side of the car and not the other, but if your priorities revolve around what

  • Nope.         Step awaaaay from the crazy man ;-)

Mk2 list price was £21,000 its only cause they did 20% off offer which made it cheaper so again i dont see it

Great! Good for you!

I apologise for expressing an opinion that is not supportive of the new vRS.

Great! Good for you!

Take a chill pill :) I think skoda uk get quiet a bad spec same as mkll. In Ireland we get better specs like cruise, maxidot auto wipers etc as standard.

Now there saying cornering fogs are an option :( they are milking it a bit.

Having said that the new vrs here starts at €32750 but it should have a good spec.

I wouldn't pay £27K for any car regardless of what badge is on the bonnet, but that's just me.

The MkIII Octavia is getting rave reviews so it's clearly a good car and a marked improvement over the MkII (and most of the competition).

Its just a shame the vRS isn't getting the same level of positive feedback, at least compared with key rivals.

I believe that the MkII was favoured by so many not because it was so good but because it was brilliant value, such a lot of (good not excellent) car for the money.

The MkIII vRS is still a dam good car but isn't as appealing (especially to MkII owners) due to it being a lot more expensive.

Yes it has more bells and whistles but the real reason Skoda are charging what they are is because they can.

Gone are the days of Skoda being the runt of the VAG family. In many ways its now the more successful brand - and that alone allows Skoda to demand a premium. It's business at the end of the day.

The real test will be if they introduce large discounts, no VAT, 0% finance etc. this will tell us if their premium positioning is working. Time will tell.

Personally I'll wait for the MkIII Blackline and use the savings to fit one of the many exhaust conversions available by then  :giggle:

Can we bring this back on topic please guys, I don't want to lock it.

There are lots of points discussed here which are valid, maybe continue in another thread or start a new one.

I was quite shocked when I looked at the dealer demo diesel yesterday to be told that one of the exhausts is blanked off.

Honestly, no chill pill required.

If there was a perfect car we'd all buy it and the others would all go unsold! I can't see as I've only had mobile access from abroad for most of the past few weeks but are all the negative views from current mk2 owners? If so that's nothing new and always happens when a new model is launched. Having owned a mk2 vrs for a few years I have no problem saying that the mk3 is a big step up. Why are people getting hung up in the detail? The drive of the new platform is way ahead IMO - it's not about offering less, the old chassis and suspension setup where pretty dire for any sort of feedback and communication. The drive was dull but it was a good looking car and offered very good value, especially the runout models. The fact the equipment is different suits me as I'd rather have xenons (an pricey option previously) dab, lane assist, more airbags, multi function wheel, rear sensors and the infotainment system (things that weren't available before) but people just don't seem to be putting any value on the engineering and size increase. Im very critical of interior quality also but I thought even an elegance spec mk3 was great that I had. There was chrome trim, previously kept back for only VW models and there were matching chrome vent trims in the rear of the cabin (previously an even cheaper area than the front of the cabin) and expense where they didn't need to spend it and is better than the old models ie the thick carpeted inner hatch panel. If the car doesn't suit you, don't buy it, keep what you have or look for another alternative, even if its a mk2 vrs based on a ten yet old design. Personally I'd rather put up with a fake exhaust (although I'd be ordering the tsi anyway) and have the other benefits the mk3 offers. :)

Those big square finishers are plain ugly, even more than the pointless chrome finishers on the mk2 vrs which are clearly stubby little add ons when viewed from the side.

It all looks a bit Honda civic, and is the styling detail on the jaguar XF that I dislike too, I'm pretty sure that the Octy is not alone with fake exhaust pipes. I guess the more vain owners will have to warm their car up on the drive first before setting off on frosty morning :)

I'm also intrigued as to what the aftermarket versions are going to look like

I think the new vRS is a lovely car generally, possibly a little colour and wheel sensitive but then most cars are.

also on the whole it is pretty good value; when you consider it is a fair development on from the MK2 and overall has considerably more standard kit. Also when one of these costs 23k and a Golf GTI is about 26k it does put things in perspective.....also Skoda were never going to throw a big marketing programme at these like they did with the MK2....in fairness as good as the MK2 is I doubt they'd have sold many at near list price without the VAT deal. Still nothing like the value of a MK2 on the VAT deal but it probably will be in several years time when Skoda can no longer sell them in their droves at their advertised OTR.

the more I think about it the more i think actually Skoda have probably got the pricing more or less right, a good amount less than the equivalent Golf with similar equipment levels and more importantly for mr family-man more space and versatility.

for me it'd definitely still be about keeping the formula basic, id buy a manual, DSG is great but at £1100 that'd buy most of the optional extras id want on it and also may as well benefit from cheaper road tax and slightly better fuel consumption also I wouldnt go mad with the options; I think thats when the cars price starts getting silly and there are things that whilst clever id not be enclined to stick on a 23k family car, apart from the lack of sat nav and cruise its well enought equipped for me. Id definitely not spec one up beyond 25k, just dont see the need. Also at that price range there are alot of nice nearly new options that are debatably nicer cars than the Octavia, new 3 series for instance which will be a big challenge to Skoda I reckon.

also I guess a few of us have made a bit of a fuss about the exhausts.....i dobt mind the fake outlets at all, the way they've tackled the TDis exhaust cobfiguration is a bit cheap but hardly a reason not to buy one. I reckon the performance exhausts will hide behind the fakery myself.

Updated list, unable to edit the original.

So is this fair? I guess you could tot up the costs of the missing gear on the MK3 (£180 for cruise but no simple way to re-add the missing aircon feed).

Then you could work out how much the options included in the MK3 would cost if you had them specified as options on a MK2.

Missing on MK3 vRS

  • Air con into Jumbo box
  • Cruise control

On MK3 but not MK2 vRS

  • DAB
  • Bluetooth
  • Rear Sensors
  • Xenons
  • MFSW
  • USB
  • Lane assist
  • Auto wipers / lights (thanks Rob-vrs21)
  • Rear backrest 'spring' release
  • Auto dim rear view mirror
  • LED rear lights
  • Maxidot (monochrome)
  • Driving mode selection
  • Auto stop start
  • Post collision braking system
  • Driver's knee airbag
  • Energy recovery
  • Driver fatigue sensor
  • Lower VED rates (across all models, not just vRS)
  • Power increases (to 184ps for TDi & 220ps for petrol)

I might have missed something   :wonder:

you should add Rear Spoiler for the estate.

Used to be a £300 ish dealer fit option with paint for the mkii vrs even though it was unavailable for the FL due to skoda incompetence!

You could just tell folk that the second exhaust only gets used when you are flooring it!

iirc there are cars in real life that do this ??

I see pics in the earlier section of the post of the diesel exhaust... does anyone have the same type of pic for the petrol? Are there single exhausts each site under the trim?

Terry

Would I prefer it to be a genuine second exhaust? Sure.

Do I consider it fundamental to the car's aesthetics? No.

Did I order one anyway because so many of its good features outway something so trivial? Yes.

Yes there just a single version of the the diesels twin tail pipes, just plain steel.

Hey all. I have experimented a little bit with exhaust mods. I’ve tried resonator delete, sounded raspy and garbage. Tried resonator upgrade to hotdog, that sounded tinny and ****. Then I just went a full custom xforce job from Penrith muffler man. That was a cracking job but it was too loud for me. Now I’m back to stock again. Has anyone tried keeping original resonator and changing the mufflers at the back?
